Barker’s Feathered Friends Sanctuary owner surrender program.
We know this is often a difficult decision, and we truly appreciate you wanting to do what’s best for your bird or poultry.
Our owner surrender program is designed to be a last-resort option, ensuring that birds who truly have nowhere else to go can receive safe, appropriate care.
Before accepting a surrender, we ask that owners make a genuine effort to rehome their bird responsibly, such as reaching out to trusted friends, family, or reputable rehoming groups. If those options are not successful, we are happy to discuss next steps with you.
How the process works:
You’ll complete an owner surrender form with detailed information about the bird, including species, age, health history, diet, and behavior.
Our team reviews the information to determine whether we have the space, resources, and appropriate setup to safely care for the bird.
If accepted, we schedule a drop-off time. Please note that surrenders are by appointment only—we cannot accept walk-ins.
In some cases, there may be a waitlist depending on current capacity.
Owner responsibilities and expectations:
Provide honest and complete information about the bird’s health and behavior.
Supply veterinary records if available.
Understand that once a bird is surrendered, ownership is fully transferred to the sanctuary, and placement decisions are made solely in the bird’s best interest.
Important things to know:
Acceptance is not guaranteed, as we must prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all animals currently in our care.
We do not rehome birds on demand or guarantee specific outcomes, timelines, or placements.
Our focus is long-term welfare, proper rehabilitation if needed, and responsible placement.
If you’d like to move forward, please let us know and we can guide you through the next steps or answer any additional questions you may have.
Thank you again for reaching out and for caring about your bird’s future.
