Greetings, Brothers,
It is with a heavy heart that I draft this communication to you this morning. I apologize for the delay in sharing this news; I have been assisting Dale’s family, and to be frank, this has been a deeply personal, and crushing loss.
W. Dale Alan Axton, Worshipful Master of Wamego Lodge No. 75, has laid down his working tools. His column is broken.
On the evening of Tuesday, October 28th, Dale suffered a sudden and unanticipated medical emergency, collapsing at work just before he was to go home for the day. There was an unknown delay before he was discovered by a co-worker, who immediately activated the 911 response system.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the emergency services personnel who gave everything to mitigate this tragedy - the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department, St. George Fire First Responders (Consolidated District 1, Station 10), and of course Pottawatomie County EMS (ALS ambulances #203 – Blue Township and #211 – Wamego), supported by EMS Administrator #200. Their swift, coordinated, and professional response represented the best of pre-hospital care available in our state.
Alas, it was to no avail. Lacta alea est - The die had been cast.
Our hearts go out to Dale’s mother and brother, and especially to his life partner, Rachel Corn. This is an incredibly difficult time for them, and indeed for all of us who were blessed to call Dale Brother and Friend. The suddenness of this loss has left us all unprepared.
Funeral and memorial arrangements have not yet been determined. As soon as more information becomes available, we will communicate it promptly to the Craft.
