Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

In Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kaori Fujii encountered extraordinary musicians whose talent, creativity, and humanity left a lasting impression.

Yet, like countless artists around the world, many face barriers that have nothing to do with their abilities.

At Music Beyond, we believe geography and circumstances should never determine how far an artist can go.

We’re working to create opportunities for artists to develop their talents, share their voices, and become leaders of positive change in their communities.

In the DRC, we work alongside artists, teachers, children and communities to turn that belief into action.

In this video, Music Beyond artists share their journey in their own words — from developing confidence and leadership skills to becoming trainers who now empower other artists.

🚨 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘.

A child who couldn’t sing learns to use their voice.

A young person who had never played an instrument learns guitar — and begins teaching other children.

Young people discover new ways to express what they feel inside.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰.

At Invisible Kids Academy, Music Beyond added music education to an existing mentoring program, creating another space for young people to learn, express themselves and discover their potential.

As one mentor says in this video:

𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 and we know it’s needed in Goma.

And there is another message we want you to hear:

𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗩𝗔𝗜𝗡.

For 12 years, we have seen what can happen when music, opportunity and committed people come together.

But we cannot keep doing this alone.

But this is about more than reaching a fundraising goal.

Meet Enock Mulikuza, a child learning music with ONE FOR US in Bukere, Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, Uganda.

We’ve been honored to support their music classes with team-building social impact workshops and some equipment including a speaker, guitar, a laptop and keyboard.
