An empty plastic bottle. A little rice. And suddenly, you have a maraca. 🪇

It may seem simple. And it is.

But creativity often starts exactly this way: looking at what you have and asking, “What can I make with this?”

For Answer Kaviti, the answer is music.

And maybe that’s one of the things art gives us — the ability to see possibilities where we might otherwise see limitations.

Not just in a bottle.

In ourselves. In our communities. In what we believe is possible.

From teaching himself music to building and experimenting with his own instruments and materials, Answer’s story is about curiosity, resourcefulness, perseverance—and the dream of peace.

Because Congo is more than the stories of war and crisis that dominate the headlines.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮̂𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 — 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗼. ❤️

More than 50 orphans, as well as a baby who is just a few months old, live at this orphanage.

Last Sunday, our Changemakers shared a moment filled with joy and creativity with the children. The day included dancing, games, singing, as well as practical learning: how to sew and repair shoes. 🧵👟

The children really enjoyed the activity, both for the new skills they discovered and for the beautiful moments they shared together.

At the end, their wish was simple and touching: 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

Because a small moment shared can become a big memory, and learning together is also a way of building hope.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻: 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

This was a new initiative for our Changemakers, and the children’s response reminded us how meaningful regular creative and learning activities can be.

To make these visits possible on a regular basis, 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. Funding helps cover the materials, transportation, and other costs that make it possible for our Changemakers to return and continue creating these moments with the children.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗿. 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗿 — a new Changemaker who recently completed our Community Leadership Workshop, led by Music Beyond Leadership Fellows.

“Before, I thought that in art, we could simply do whatever we wanted. But the workshops helped me understand something essential: 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

Our art should first transform us, help us grow, and push us to become better people.

But it can also go further: 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆. 🌍

So, let’s not create art simply because we can.

Let’s create it 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲.
Let’s create it 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
Let’s create it to inspire, raise awareness, and bring something positive to the people around us.”

Last Sunday, we visited the children of TOUT EST GRÂCE orphanage, together with the 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 from our Leadership Workshop.

We spent a beautiful day with the children — sharing music, preparing a meal, playing, and simply spending time together.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 — 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆.

It reminded us of something essential: 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

You don’t necessarily need to bring money or do something extraordinary to make a difference. Sometimes, giving your 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘆 is enough to brighten someone’s day.

And seeing the joy on these children’s faces reminded us of that once again. ❤️

Every song has a story.
This one has two.

Yusubu Kas and Jcm Final Mix came together to tell the stories of the women who shaped them: their mothers, Joséphine and Chachimwe.

Every morning, their mothers wake up early and head to the fields. They work under the sun, despite the fatigue. And when they return home, their day is far from over — they continue caring for their families.

These are the stories that inspired this song.

Through their music, Yusubu and JCM Final say thank you to their mothers — and to all the women whose love, strength, and hard work quietly help build a better future for their families every single day.

But there is another message woven into this song.

To sing even amid the sound of bombs, even as bullets whistled overhead…

That is what these children did during the chaos that accompanied M23’s capture of Goma.

This song is far more than a melody. It reminds us that music can drive away fear, restore hope, and awaken courage—even in the darkest of times.

Our heartfelt thanks to INVISIBLE KIDS ACADEMY 🇨🇩 for their partnership and for entrusting us with the privilege of bringing music into these children’s lives. Together, we will continue creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and let their voices be heard.

Before the music came the rice.

Our Leadership Fellows chose to begin with an act of love, bringing a few bags of rice to families displaced by war.

We believe both the body and the soul need nourishment. Rice strengthens the body. Music strengthens the spirit. Together, they give people the courage to keep going.

This is the kind of leadership we strive to cultivate.
