At Sustainable Healthcare for Haiti (SHH), every dollar directly supports healthcare, education, and young-adult development for the children and young adults at the Saint Dominique Orphanage / Pierre Salvetti Home in Port-au-Prince.

• Restore health for Jhonsley, who required urgent treatment and multiple surgeries — and support children like Christa, who is seeking a new prosthetic leg to finally live with less pain.
• Support Charles, a young man rebuilding confidence and training for an electrician career — while empowering 26 other young adults participating in a 10-month Life Skills & Professional Development program.
• Sustain Jodalienne, a third-year medical student and mother working toward becoming a doctor — and help three additional young adults attend university.

✨ August Updates ✨

This month, we’re celebrating progress across all three of our pillars — Healthcare, Education, and Young Adult Development — and inviting you to walk alongside us as we continue supporting these incredible young people.

💚 Healthcare: Christa’s Journey
Thanks to your generosity, we reached our fundraising goal for Christa’s new prosthetic! After consulting with a U.S. orthopedic surgeon and her local care team, we’ve learned she’ll first need corrective surgery to reshape her residual limb so the prosthetic can be fitted safely and without pain. We’re now awaiting the final surgical recommendation before moving forward — and remain committed to Christa’s long-term mobility and health.

📚 Education: Defying the Odds
Despite unrest and violence in Port-au-Prince, our university students are thriving. From medical school to engineering, these young women are achieving incredible academic milestones under incredibly difficult circumstances. Your support is what keeps them moving forward — through tuition, tech, and safe transportation.

🌱 Young Adult Development: Growing Through Challenge
Our 8-month development program continues strong, with recent workshops on conflict resolution and communication. We’re also stepping up for students who need extra help — launching remedial support programs this fall to ensure no one gets left behind.

💚 Help Christa Take Her Next Step 💚

Christa is a brave 21-year-old living in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After growing up with severe clubfoot and enduring a leg amputation, she now walks with an old, painful prosthetic that no longer fits.

Despite so many challenges — including recent breast tumor surgery — Christa remains full of hope. And now, we have a chance to give her the freedom to walk again safely and with dignity.

🎯 Our Goal: Raise $1,700
This will cover a new custom prosthetic and two weeks of physical therapy through Healing Hands for Haiti, a clinic near her home.

I want to share an inspiring journey that highlights the incredible power of compassion and generosity. Meet Christa – a 21-year-old young woman whose life has been marked by hardship, but also by incredible resilience and hope.

From surviving on the streets of Haiti to overcoming medical challenges, including the amputation of her leg and the discovery of painful tumors, Christa's journey is nothing short of remarkable. With the support of donors like you, she has been given the chance to ease some of her struggles.
