The Mission of Books & Bread is to reduce the opportunity gap and increase access to literary materials during the pandemic by bringing books directly to food pantries, grocery stores, and parks in the communities that need those materials the most. The goal of Books & Bread is to supplement the great work that those institutions are doing to get literary materials out to students who need them. A
ll books are privately donated or purchased with funds privately donated by our supporters. Because the books are donated we are able to give them to families instead of lending them to families. This allows us to bring books into the community and not have to worry about getting them back. By bringing these materials directly to students we are able to eliminate some barriers that might be preventing them from accessing those materials through libraries or schools. Books & Bread came about from the observations of concerned educators and youth development workers who noticed the opportunity gap growing as a result of the access that different populations had to educational materials during the pandemic. It is a grassroots project that is ever-evolving and growing. Much of that growth has been made possible by the generosity of supporters like you. Book donations can be arranged by sending a message through Facebook or emailing [email protected]. We currently have a wealth of books but we are always happy to expand our collection. What we are most in need of is books in Spanish, which is one significant area of deficit in our collection. Monetary donations can be sent via Venmo to or in the form of Amazon gift cards sent to [email protected] you for reading and for your support of the students in the community.
