Keeper of the Wild Wildlife Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing orphaned and injured native South Carolina mammalian wildlife. We rehabilitate those we rescue while preserving their wild instincts, and then release them back to the wild so that they may fulfill the purpose in nature’s plan for which they were born toward keeping the earth a balanced and healthy place for all to live.

🫪Can you believe we still have bottle babies

Babies are still coming in and they will not meet the requirements for release before winter ❄️

This baby season has been one for the books and we will be having a ton of wild babies to overwinter

The most perfect Saturday 🩷

Getting in critical wildlife is never easy… We start medication,fluids, warmth, call our vet and then we hold our breath...

Getting in critical wildlife is never easy…
We start medication,fluids, warmth, call our vet and then we hold our breath

The first 24 hours are always critical
We hope and pray this baby makes it to their vet appointment but when you have been doing this as long as we have you know the signs

His color was white
His body temperature was cold
He was skinny and had some wounds

Winston made it til 3am 😔
He passed safe, warm and without pain

Sometimes all we can be is safe place to pass 🤍

Our baby otters Lucas and Ion are growing and eating more than 1 lb of fish a day! 🫪

Our sweet momma 🩷

After some much needed fluids, B12, flea treatment and antibiotics she is relaxed

She is receiving high calorie and vitamin rich meals to help her heal and nourish her 2 babies
She is very messy eater but we can handle that 😂
We have been using a small crate during feeding and that helps her stop circling 🩷

Most likely that eye is gone. She is receiving antibiotics, pain medication (all safe for her babies) along with topical eye / wound meds

Every new intake gets a quick exam-
With opossums we typically just reach underneath and check for a pouch or not (it’s also the proper way to hold 😉)

While we checked out our new intake we did find a pouch but we also felt something else 🤩😱

Did you know that Charleston has a very established and prominent white squirrel colony?

These are not albino, but called leucistic.

Albino animals completely lack melanin and have pink or red eyes, while leucistic animals have a partial loss of pigment and have normal dark or blue eyes.

We consider these squirrels releasable (unless deemed otherwise by our vet).

We are excited to watch Marie grow!
She will be with us overwinter since she is a late season baby … like so many we have received in our care.

You may have already heard 👂🏼that THIS SUNDAY we’re bringing the party to **House of Brews** to raise money for **Keeper of the Wild** — and we’re ready to have some FUN! 🍻🎶

This one is extra special because **this is the FIRST time we’ve ever held a fundraiser other than our annual Oyster Roast!**

Apparently, waiting until February to party again was just too long! 🤣
