Saturday September 5th was a great (and busy) day for Vulcan Lodge.

Vulcan hosted the Kansas Masonic Foundation / Masonic Cancer Alliance free cancer screening. In three hours we helped screen around 80 people for cancer (not bad in a town of 200) The heat index hit 105 degrees or we would have had more. This program is the most positive event that a Masonic Lodge can do in their community.

Vulcan also displayed the 1966 Corvette Stingray Convertible that we are selling raffle tickets on. If you would like to purchase one go online to www.KansasMasonic.Foundation and select "Vulcan Lodge 229" as the seller. 75% of the proceeds comes back to Vulcan and we use the funds for scholarships to area youth.

And finally, we presented a $5,000 check to the Walnut Community Organization. This was made possible by a grant thru the KMF Community Grant program. These funds are being used for a park directly across the street from our Lodge.

Guess what we have in the trailer and Saturday at the Walnut Labor Day Celebration you can purchase a $20 ticket (or six for $100) and have a chance to win this. Vulcan Lodge will be set up all morning selling tickets. Not a car person? We will also be selling tickets for a drawing on 104 guns.

Last night, July 19th, Vulcan Lodge #229 hosted our annual Scholarship and Awards Ceremony.
This year we awarded 13 scholarships to area youth totaling $8,500. The scholarships were funded by the Kansas Masonic Foundation and the brethren of Vulcan Lodge thru sales of our car and gun raffle tickets.
Prior to handing out money we fed around 60 people.
Since Vulcan has started handing out scholarships, we have given over $100,000 to 172 area students.

This year one of our students requested a petition for membership.

On April 22nd, four brethren (Doug Shireman, John Jacquinot, Ken Collins, and Don Wheeler) from Vulcan Lodge presented a $900 check to the Girard High School Future Business Leaders of America . The Lodge and school kids have partnered on selling Kansas Masonic Foundation classic car raffle tickets. Vulcan has also added KMF Community Matching Funds to their sales.
This is the second check that we have presented to them this school year (total $4,020). Vulcan has partnered with the GHS FBLA for four years and has now given about $14,600 to them.
They will be selling tickets next school year.
