Ryan Christopher Jones, a visual anthropologist who has spent good amount of time in the Sacramento River Delta studying its people and the water. Ryan takes a great interest in social, linguistic, biological and archeological dimension of his studies. Our members had the pleasure to share his philosophy and researches. We wish him every success in his pursuit of doctoral dissertation on the community politics of large-scale water transfers in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Meanwhile we recommend everyone to visit his gallery of amazing photograhies.

The Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta was designated as the 55th National Heritage Area in the United States by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2019. As California's first National Heritage Area, this prestigious designation carries tremendous significance, recognizing the Delta's extraordinary cultural, historical, natural, and agricultural legacy.

Blake Roberts, representing the Delta Protection Commission, the coordinating entity for the National Heritage Area, shared with us the many benefits and opportunities this designation brings. His presentation highlighted how the National Heritage Area status can promote heritage tourism, strengthen preservation efforts, foster community partnerships, and celebrate the unique history and resources that make the Delta one of California's greatest treasures.

Josh shared some wonderful news with us — and wonderful news for the town as well. Gourmet coffee will soon be served at his increasingly popular Everything Sweet Bakery. It is fast becoming the coolest place in town for our townsfolk to gather, relax, and hang out together.

California State Parks interpreters Tracy Kosinski and Logan Currin came to speak with us about the Delta Meadows project, which may benefit from support through the Waterway Connection Initiative (WCI) funding program.

The Delta Meadows Park property encompasses portions of Snodgrass Slough and also includes the historic Locke Boarding House. Some of us believe this presents an excellent opportunity to make better use of our region’s beautiful natural and historic resources while strengthening heritage tourism, recreation, and environmental education in the Delta.
