The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time. 🦋❤️

Watch the video of her story time reading at the Library. ⬇️ https://blogs.loc.gov/loc/2020/12/dolly-parton-the-library-that-dolly-built/

What were you doing sixteen years ago?

In July, the downtown Walnut Creek Library celebrated its 16th birthday. Since its grand reopening, it has become a beautiful and beloved fixture in the heart of the city, and one of the most used facilities in the Contra Costa County Library system.

Over the years, community generosity has helped both Walnut Creek library branches provide additional ebooks, original and engaging programs, updated technology and equipment, and refreshed furnishings for library users of all ages.

Looking ahead, the downtown Walnut Creek Library has extended its hours as of July 1, 2026:
Monday: 10 AM–8 PM
Tuesday: 10 AM–8 PM
Wednesday: 10 AM–8 PM
Thursday: 10 AM–8 PM
Friday: 9 AM–5 PM
Saturday: 9 AM–5 PM
Sunday: Closed

These added hours will help accommodate increased demand during the scheduled closure of the Ygnacio Valley Library for infrastructure upgrades, currently planned for September 9, 2026 through approximately May 31, 2027.

The communities surrounding Ygnacio Valley Library are eagerly awaiting this much-needed refresh of their beloved neighborhood branch.
