SPONTANEOUS MIND AT THE DIABLO IMPROV FESTIVAL
This fall, the second annual Diablo Improv Festival brings three days of performances, workshops, jams, laughter, and connection to the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek.
And Spontaneous Mind will be right in the middle of it.
We’re proud to be participating with Spontaneous Mind Over Matter on stage, plus two workshops taught by Randy Wight and Jaime Rich, each exploring a different side of the craft we love.
COME FOR A SHOW. STAY FOR THE WEEKEND.
SPONTANEOUS MIND OVER MATTER
Saturday, October 17 | 4:30 PM
George & Sonja Vukasin Theatre
Nothing is planned. Everything is possible.
Our ensemble brings a high-energy, completely improvised comedy experience to the festival, sharing the bill with All That Jazz and BATS. Every scene is created live from audience suggestions.
No scripts. No rehearsed punchlines. No two shows are ever the same.
One audience. One night. One performance that will never happen again.
THE MECHANICS OF FUNNY: WHERE STAND-UP AND IMPROV MEET
Sunday, October 18 | 9:00–11:00 AM
Encore Room
Instructor: Randy Wight
Stand-up asks, “What’s funny about this?”
Improv asks, “What’s interesting about this?”
Sometimes they’re asking the same question.
Randy brings his background in both disciplines together in a workshop exploring timing, patterns, escalation, absurdity, surprise, and the shared architecture behind getting a laugh.
RESCUE YOUR PARTNER / RESCUE THE SCENE
Sunday, October 18 | 11:10 AM–1:10 PM
Lederer Art Space
Instructor: Jaime Rich
When a scene begins to drift, great improvisers don’t simply hope it finds its way back.
Jaime introduces practical tools for supporting your partner, restoring clarity, strengthening relationship and stakes, and turning uncertain moments into compelling scenes without breaking the reality you’ve created together.
WATCH IT. LEARN IT. PLAY IT.
Whether you’re a longtime improviser, a comedy fan, or simply improv-curious, the Diablo Improv Festival is an opportunity to experience what makes this art form special.
Come see us perform. Take a workshop. Jump into a jam. Or spend the weekend exploring it all.
