Families Without Borders is a social profit organization that prepares the next generation of leaders through higher education enriched by continuous training in service and ethics. We begin by recruiting top students from disadvantaged families. We enroll them in a four year Bachelors Degree program of their choice complemented by a full servant leadership and personal development program. The pr

ogram includes: advance computer skills, communication skills and financial management. Designs & implements their own community service project
b. Initiates and manages a micro business
c. Demonstrates the highest ethical standard in all their activities
e. Agrees to sponsor the next generation of FWB students internalizing our belief in building communities from within

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Since inception, we have impacted 17,000 lives in 13 villages and one major city in Sierra Leone in the following ways:
- Distributed teaching aid / supplies to teachers in 7 villages to help improve the quality of education.
- Distributed school supplies to 10 villages (for 1000+ students) many of them more than once.
- Distributed solar lights/ solar generators for schools in 7 villages improving the lives of 3000+ people.
- Started the first high speed public internet cafe and technology center in Makeni, the 4th largest city in Sierra Leone
- Monthly street cleaning in Makeni initiated by our college students.
- Taught adult literacy classes in 5 villages through our college students. Currently 150+ men and women are enrolled in the program.
- Grew college scholarship program from one student to 30 who are now running all our programs in Sierra Leone.
- Built 2 elementary schools and 1 middle school in three different villages; replacing rundown mud huts. (Today 250+ students attend classes in the new school structures instead of 10-20 students in those mud hut. )
- Dug / repaired two water wells in two remote villages. (Today 700 villagers are enjoying clean and fresh water)
- During the Ebola crisis, we sent $33,000 to be used for emergency aide before any large organizations started sending support to Makeni or the surrounding villages. We are proud to say because of our support 1400 lives in one complete village (Yalisanda) was saved. The entire village was about to vanish when we took responsibility and through collaboration with the University of Makeni saved that village. Our aide provided baby food, medical supplies, fuel for ambulances to transport the infected Ebola patients, food for those in quarantine and more. Every dollar raised can have a huge impact on many people's lives. Your contribution will provide school supplies, college sponsorship, generators for schools, adult literacy programs for villages and other programs that we hope will lead to self-sufficiency and economic sustainability in our West African communities.

On March 14th Families Without Borders celebrated a meaningful milestone — their 10-year reunion of their first graduation ceremony. It was a powerful gathering that brought together alumni from across a decade, reflecting the lasting impact of the organization’s work and the strength of its community.

FWB Founder & Executive Director Terri Khonsari was in attendance, helping to mark the occasion and reconnect with so many individuals whose lives have been shaped by the program. The event was generously sponsored by Leone Rock Metal Group, whose support helped make the celebration possible.

FWB students marked the International Day of Education by visiting three schools across Sierra Leone. At two schools, they engaged pupils in discussions on key public health topics, raising awareness and encouraging positive health practices both at school and at home. At the third school, they focused on climate justice, emphasizing environmental responsibility and the vital role young people play in protecting their environment.

In December 25, FWB alumni and students came together for our annual alumni-led retreat. The weekend was filled with meaningful learning, reflection, deep connection, and leadership development. Students also had the opportunity to serve their community by visiting a local orphanage and sharing snacks with the children. We are deeply grateful to the alumni who generously gave their time, energy, and hearts to make this weekend so special.

Families Without Borders students and fellows, together with students from Wells Mountain Imitative (WMI), recently marked the International Day of the Girl Child by visiting five schools across Sierra Leone. During their visits, they held programs for both girls and boys.

The girls were educated on the importance of menstrual hygiene and spent the day making reusable sanitary pads. The boys received education aimed at reducing menstrual stigma. The program reached over 2,200 youth and over 3,000 sanitary pads were created for over 800 girls.

We were excited to partner with WMI for this project. WMI is a non profit organization that does similar work in Sierra Leone. Thank you to their students who helped make this program a success!
