For the first time in the history of the CCFOA, a former member, past president, all around outstanding official and even better person will be working this Sunday’s Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, AZ.
John "JJ" Jenkins got his start at the high school level in the CCFOA working several NCS finals and then moved on to Junior College football, followed by the WCFOA as an official and association officer working Division 1-AA. His next step up was working games in the old version of the WAC football Conference, until he then got the call from Dave Cutaia (former PAC-10 Head of Officials and current CCFOA member) to work in the PAC-10 and there was no stopping him on his way to the NFL.
As JJ made his way to the top, he has been very instrumental in helping many current and past CCFOA members as a mentor and resource about the process and experiences working at the higher levels. JJ would call and challenge many CCFOA officials on rule questions out of the blue to make sure we were always current on the rules study. On occasion, he would bring some members along to study groups that he attended, and also came back to our study groups - even after making it to the NFL. Working a scrimmage with him was always a chance for him to share the knowledge that he had acquired along the way.
So, as you sit down for the big game this Sunday, with your chips, guacamole and icy cold one - cheer for #117 in the stripes knowing that he was once in the same shoes that we stand now.
Congratulations JJ and DFU!
