Wallingford Cardinals 8U Red Improve to 10-2 with Sunday Sweep of Wow Factor

The Wallingford Cardinals 8U Red continued their strong season, improving to 10-2 with a pair of wins (10-0 and 15-7) over Wow Factor on Sunday.

Game 1 the Cardinals were led by a dominant performance on the mound from Bryce Peterson, who tossed a complete-game shutout over 4 innings. Peterson allowed just 3 hits while striking out 6 and was backed by outstanding team defense.

Offensively, the Cardinals were powered by the top of the lineup. Bryce McDade and Elliot Grant each went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Buddy Peterson, Bryce Peterson, and Eli Slater added one hit and one RBI apiece as the Cardinals cruised to a 10-0 victory.

The offense stayed hot in Game 2 as the Cardinals pounded out another strong team effort. Eli Slater went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Bryce Peterson finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, and Buddy Peterson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Elliot Grant added 2 RBIs on his lone hit, while Mac Muratti, Ari Patel, and Carter McDade each chipped in a hit, with McDade driving in a run. Rowan Keirn contributed in multiple ways, laying down a perfect sacrifice bunt and leading the team with 4 stolen bases.

Ari Patel earned the win in his first outing of the season, throwing 2 innings while allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and striking out 3. Keirn followed with a strong inning of relief, allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 1. Grant closed out the game, surrendering 2 runs on 1 hit and striking out 2.

The Cardinals now turn their attention to a busy final weekend of the regular season, with four games on the schedule before heading into the playoffs the following week. With momentum building and contributions coming from throughout the roster, the Cardinals look poised for a strong postseason run. ⚾πŸ”₯

As many of you may have heard, 12-year-old Xavier Taylor of Maple Shade, New Jersey, was critically injured in a tragic baseball accident during pregame warmups. Xavier remains hospitalized as he continues his fight toward recovery, and the baseball community across the country has come together in support of him, his family, his teammates, and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking event.

At the Cardinals, we believe sports are more than wins and losses. It is a community that extends far beyond our own teams, towns, and leagues. When one of our own is hurting, we come together.

To show our support and help spread awareness, the Cardinals Baseball & Softball Organization has ordered bracelets bearing the message . We expect to begin distributing them this weekend, or early next week if there are any shipping delays.

We encourage all Cardinals players and coaches to wear their bracelets during games, practices, and whenever they choose. While it is a simple gesture, it represents something much biggerβ€”the strength of the baseball community, the power of support, and the hope that Xavier and his family can feel the thousands of people standing behind them.

As you see the message throughout the remainder of the season, we hope it serves as a reminder to keep Xavier in your thoughts and prayers and to appreciate every opportunity our children have to step onto a field and play the game they love.

Thank you for joining us as we support Xavier and his family.

The Wallingford Cardinals 8U Red bounced back this weekend, improving to 8-2 on the season after an 11-4 victory over Mission City Baseball in a Memorial Day Tournament game that was cut short due to weather. The Cardinals made the most of their lone game, earning the win in 4 innings.

At the plate, Bryce McDade, Eli Slater, and Elliot Grant stayed hot, each going 2-for-2, with Grant adding a double. RJ Barbuto also chipped in with a hit as the Cardinals offense continued to produce up and down the lineup.

On the mound, the Cardinals were led by the McDade duo. Bryce McDade started the game, pitching 2 strong innings while striking out 3. Carter McDade picked up the win in relief, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits.

The Cardinals now look forward to finishing the season strong by continuing to play team baseball and having fun together.
