We will be happy to meet and guide you to our rehearsal hall. I think you will truly enjoy the experience. What is the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS)? The BHS is comprised of over 800 USA chapters. Our chapter currently has 20 active members out of over 23,000 members currently of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Our society is also international with over 1000 affiliate members in eight foreign countries. Who is the Central Connecticut Chapter? Our chapter is made up of men who reside in over a dozen central Connecticut towns. We love to sing, harmonize and perform as part of a chorus or quartet. We have a diverse repertoire of crowd-pleasing songs and have performed as a chorus and with our quartets throughout the state. Although we sing unaccompanied, we have performed with the Wallingford and Waterbury Symphonies. To sharpen our skills, we also compete at the Northeastern Divisional and District levels and have been a past winner of the small chorus championship. Our group is made up of men of all ages who come from all walks of life brought together by their love of four-part harmony and their joy of singing and performing. Under the musical guidance of our director Hart School of Music graduate Tony Nasto and strong music team, you will have the benefit of the best coaching and opportunity to improve your singing skills. Our mission is to promote acapella vocal harmony and good fellowship among our members and throughout our communities. What is our musical style? Ours is a traditional American musical style sung in four part unaccompanied close harmony. The melody is carried in the second voice and is called the LEAD (that’s what I sing). The TENOR is the high part and harmonizes above the lead. The BASS sings the lowest notes and provides the solid foundation for our four-part harmony. The BARITONE fills in the missing notes to complete the chord, sometimes above and sometimes below the melody or LEAD part. There is a great of traditional melodies that are enjoyed and cherished as we learn and sing them in our shows and competitions. We also are challenged with newer song that have been written or arranged by some of our very talented, Barbershop Harmony Society arrangers. Barbershop music is a truly American contribution to the world of music as unique and distinctive as jazz or the blues. How do we learn our songs? One does not need to know how to read music to sing with us; of course it certainly would help but not necessary. We practice by using CD's that have our voice part dominant, by singing in our part sections, and rehearsing in the chorus and in quartets. Our talented director, Tony Nasto strives for excellence and having fun as they guide us through the learning process and our performances. I assure you that you will become a better singer as you learn and practice the coaching provided by Tony and our music team.It is challenging and very rewarding to be part of an organization which can create such beautiful heart felt harmonies. It is challenging and very rewarding to be part of an organization which can create such beautiful heart felt harmonies. It is a joy to entertain audiences with the great songs and arrangements available to us.

MEMBERS NEEDED!!!!
The Connecticut Yankee Chorus is a Barbershop Chorus based out of Wallingford, Connecticut. We were founded in 1947 and are a chapter of the international Barbershop Harmony Society. We are currently an all-male chorus, but we certainly welcome all interested men or women with an interest in joining and learning the art of four-part-barbershop harmony! For those unfamiliar with the style, the parts are:
Lead-Sings the melody of the chord
Tenor-Sings above the lead. For men, this is an all falsetto part.
Bass- Sings at the bottom of the chord.
Baritone- Fills in all of the other notes in the chord that the other three parts don't sing.

The chorus meets Wednesday nights from 7-9:30 at The Wallingford Park and Rec located at 6 Fairfield Boulevard in Wallingford. Interested perspective members can contact the chorus president Mike Trzciensky at [email protected] or by text at 203-443-3771. Walk-ins are fine, but if you can let us know you're coming it would be preferable just in case we cancel that night and you're there all by yourself.

The Connecticut Yankee Chorus is sad to share the news of the passing of longtime member Steve LeClaire after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was a former President of our chapter and was extremely dedicated to the art form of the Barbershop style. Steve could be found singing tenor in numerous quartets and choruses throughout the NED district and was extremely dedicated to the promotion of the district's Youth and Harmony innitiatives.
In honor of Steve's extreme dedication to the Barbershop craft, the chapter has renamed our Barbershopper of the Year award in his honor. We had the pleasure of sharing this news with Steve at a rehearsal at his house a few weeks back. Needless to say, he will be extremely missed.
