What a great conversation at the AgingCT Annual Conference yesterday!

I was honored to moderate a panel of outstanding Home and Community-Based provider experts. A heartfelt thank you to Megan Garcia of Northwell Health, Laura Lusebrink of VITAS Healthcare, Brooke Mignonga of Careforth, Mario D'Aquila of Assisted Living Home Care Services, and Chrissie Schettini of the Connecticut Association of Adult Day Services and Palace Adult Day Health Center.

Each of you brought valuable perspectives and practical insights that helped demystify the often-complicated process of navigating care at home. Your commitment to supporting older adults and their families was evident throughout the discussion.

Office of Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Comptroller Sean Scanlon, a special thanks for holding yesterday’s press conference on the challenges of Medicaid funding and the Governor’s proposed CT Option as an affordable solution to a long-term health plan for small businesses and non-profits.

Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home is also concerned about the federal cuts to Medicaid and subsidies for affordable healthcare. Our Board Chair Jenn LeDuc expressed our message clearly today emphasizing the cost savings to the state by caring for people in their homes where they want to be. Jenn emphasized when looking to use Medicaid dollars efficiently, “Investing in home and community-based services, including behavioral health support, can help prevent costly hospitalizations, support families, and make Medicaid dollars go further.”

As Governor Lamont and Lt Governor Bysiewicz continue their campaign for another term leading this great state, we urge you to be mindful of the value of investing in our home and community-based providers as the cost-savings vehicle for our healthcare system.
