URGENT!!: Please contact your representatives today. As written, S.B. 950 would allow the utilities the authority to prune or remove trees along the utility backbone without the involvement and authority of the Municipal Tree Warden or the notification of abutters.
At this point, it is imperative that you contact your local representatives and voice your concerns over this bill and the removal of a Tree Wardens' authority. Tree Wardens are public officials, professional and trained representatives of the towns you serve, and often serve as an intermediary between the utilities and the public.

Subject line: SB-950
Dear Senators Looney and Cabrera:
I am writing to express my strong opposition to SB-950 AN ACT CONCERNING THE REPLACEMENTOF PUBLIC UTILITY POLES AND REVISING VEGETATION MANAGEMENT IN UTILITYPROTECTION ZONES.
This bill was passed out of the Energy and Technology Committee with the promise by Co-Chair Senator Needleman that it would be amended to protect local control. However, no changes were made in committee to the language to reflect these promises before being introduced in the Senate.
This bill is a giant step backwards at a time when we are fighting the existential threat of climate change and the survival of life on this planet as we know it. This Bill works against Governor Lamont’s Executive Order #3 and the extensive work of the Governor's Council on climate Change (GC3) to reach our greenhouse gas goals by 2030 and address the inequalities that exist in our vulnerable communities. PURA’s Decision was the correct decision for our state and for this time in our history.
Imagine your neighborhood with no street trees! Imagine not having the benefits that trees provide 24/7 including carbon sequestration, cleaning our air, creating oxygen, providing relief from the hot sun in summer months, mitigating flooding and soil erosion and the beauty and charm that brings tourists to our state to enjoy our fall season. Imagine the increasingly devastating impact on our vulnerable communities. For all of these reasons and many more, this bill is NOT in our best interest. The Bill must be defeated in the Senate.
Thank you for your consideration. I would appreciate a reply to this letter.
Sincerely,
Your name
