In A Heartbeat Foundation In A Heartbeat is a nonprofit foundation with the mission to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

In A Heartbeat was founded in 2015 by Mike Papale to raise money and awareness for sudden cardiac arrest and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Our mission is to spread the word about the importance of CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), as well as to provide AEDs and emergency training to organizations. In 2006 at age 17, Mike experienced sudden cardiac arrest. There was no AED on site, but fortunately for Mike, an EMT working nearby was able to get to him in time, performing CPR for eight minutes and saving his life. Mike was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (an enlarged heart muscle), and had a defibrillator implanted into his chest. Without an AED on site, doctors said Mike’s chance of survival was one in a million.

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and we're launching Every Heartbeat Counts, our campaign to protect young hearts. ❤️

Sudden cardiac arrest is the #1 killer of student athletes. But it doesn't have to be.

🔎 Find it before it strikes: 1 in 300 young people has a heart condition no one has found. One free EKG can catch it.
⚡ Restart it when it does: Immediate CPR can double or triple the chance of survival, and an AED nearby can restart a heart.

Through Every Heartbeat Counts, we're raising $20,000 this month to fund free EKG screenings, place AEDs in schools and on fields, and train the next generation of lifesavers.

We’re incredibly grateful to Andre Drummond for partnering with In A Heartbeat and inviting us to be part of the Andre Drummond All Stars Camp.

Andre, thank you for believing in our mission to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest and for helping us bring CPR, AED education, EKG screenings, and heart health awareness to the next generation of athletes. Providing campers with EKGs, along with hands-on CPR and AED education, allowed us to take an important step toward early detection and lifesaving preparedness. Your willingness to use your platform to make a difference means so much to us.

A huge thank you as well to our incredible volunteers from Quinnipiac University for showing up, educating, and helping make this day possible. Your passion and commitment continue to make a real impact.

Everything we do - from providing free EKG screenings to donating AEDs and teaching lifesaving CPR/AED skills - is only possible because of the incredible people who give their time, energy, and compassion to our mission.

We would not be able to make the impact we do without each and every volunteer who shows up, serves, and believes in a world where more lives are saved from sudden cardiac arrest.
