Norwalk Hospital Workers Rally for a Fair Contract
Hospital Workers at Norwalk Hospital to Hold Solidarity Rally as Contract Negotiations Continue
Norwalk, CT — Hospital workers at Norwalk Hospital will gather for a solidarity rally on Sunday, April 27th at 2:00 PM at the corner of Bedford and Van Buren Avenues in Norwalk. The rally is a show of unity and strength as workers continue their push for a fair contract that supports dignity, stability, and respect in the workplace.
The rally comes at a pivotal moment for healthcare in the region. Northwell Health recently announced plans to acquire Nuvance Health on May 1,2025, the parent company of Norwalk Hospital, signaling significant changes on the horizon.
Norwalk Hospital workers—many of whom are among the lowest-paid in the facility—are standing together to call for better wages, affordable benefits, safer working conditions, and greater workplace fairness. Their message is clear: healthcare workers deserve contracts that reflect their essential role in keeping hospitals running and communities healthy.
“Our members are united,” said Dave Hannon, President of CHCA District 1199. “This rally is about solidarity—within our own unit, with healthcare workers across the region, and with every patient and community member who depends on us. We are strongest when we stand together.”
CHCA District 1199, NUHHCE, was founded in 1976 by Mary Lou Millar, a registered nurse who led the fight for fair treatment on the job. Today, the union represents nearly 3,000 healthcare workers across Connecticut and is part of the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees (NUHHCE) and AFSCME.
As healthcare workers continue to recover from the lasting impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, more are organizing to ensure their voices are heard and their work is respected. CHCA is proud to be leading that movement in Connecticut.
