It has been brought to the attention of the State Vocational Federation of Teachers (SVFT) and AFT Connecticut (AFT CT) that photographs of Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) teachers and students have been posted to social media as part of a political campaign without their knowledge.

It is extremely inappropriate for a political candidate to use our teachers’ and students’ work to promote their political campaign, especially without their consent. Requests for the post to be removed from the social media platforms have gone unanswered.

While our state federation (AFT CT) does endorse political candidates, that part of our work is kept separate from our classrooms. We, as teachers, strive to keep our students’ learning conditions nonpartisan, giving students the tools they need to make decisions for themselves.
