Our Combat Robotics League is officially rolling — and the Founding Season is bigger than we imagined.
When we floated the idea of a combat robotics league at Grand River Makerspace, we hoped a handful of folks would bite. Instead?
27 competitors signed up — plastic ant-weight machines about to do battle.
22 are building from our group-order kits, and 5 rolled up their sleeves to build their own bots from scratch.
Here's what makes this special: our members didn't just sign up — they helped build the thing itself. Six of them chipped in above and beyond their registration to fund a permanent combat arena at GRM. Once it's built, it's here for every member, every season, for good. The names on it are the people who made it happen.
What's ahead:
Build sessions — we assemble bots together, no experience needed
Arena construction — kicking off now, done by mid-August
Practice matches — mid-August
Public tournament during GR Tech Week — come watch the mayhem in September!
This is exactly what a makerspace is supposed to be: not the equipment, but the people who show up, learn something new, and build something together.
