Camp because I said I would currently needs one full-size dishwasher, estimated at $550, to support group stays, retreats, and events.

A dishwasher helps gives everyone more time to focus on serving the people who came to Camp. It is not the flashiest item on a wish list, but it is the kind of practical donation that gets used over and over again.

A walk through the property is relaxing. A walk through the property while trying to throw a disc between trees becomes a competition.

Disc golf is one of the outdoor activities available at Camp because I said I would, giving lodging guests and retreat groups another reason to get outside, move around, and spend time together. And if one round is not enough, Camp also offers hiking, foot golf, canoeing, kayaking, archery, campfire areas, and more across its 92 acres.

Our nonprofit is recruiting skilled construction professionals for its Camp Construction Advisory Council, a hybrid volunteer role for people with backgrounds in plumbing, roofing, electrical work, carpentry, HVAC, general contracting, and related trades.

Some thank-yous deserve more than an email. On Tuesday, November 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Camp because I said I would will host a Thanksgiving Luncheon in the Grand Hall to recognize the people who help make this work possible.

The gathering is intended for donors, volunteers, foundation and grant partners, corporate supporters, and others who have given their time, resources, and belief to the mission.

It is a chance to share a meal and recognize the people behind the scenes who help Camp serve grieving families, community impact professionals, and others facing adversity.

When a family is grieving, even getting away for a night or two can feel financially out of reach.
Camp because I said I would’s Time Away With Family program helps eligible families who have lost a loved one spend meaningful time together in a peaceful setting without carrying the full cost of a resort cabin stay.

Grieving families can stay during weekdays throughout the year, based on need, donor funding, and property availability. There is no expectation that a family “fix” grief while they are here. The purpose is much simpler: give people room to breathe, spend time together, enjoy nature, and step away from some of the demands waiting for them at home.

Camp because I said I would has one mile of canopied forest hiking trails winding through its 92-acre property. For lodging guests and program participants, the trails offer something simple that can be surprisingly hard to find in everyday life: a quiet place to move, think, talk, or spend a little time alone.

A walk can become part of a retreat conversation, a family morning, a break between workshops, or simply a reason to put the phone away for a while.
And when you are finished, there is plenty more nearby, including canoeing, kayaking, disc golf, foot golf, campfire areas, and other outdoor activities.

There are group trips, and then there are trips where your group gets an 8,500-square-foot lodge. Manor Lodge at Camp because I said I would sleeps up to 35 guests and includes seven bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, two kitchens, large gathering areas with fireplaces, two saloon-style wet bars, a game room with an 8-foot pool table, a 28-person banquet room, an 18-person dining room, and high-speed internet.

Then you go outside.

There is a private hot tub, three-tier cedar sauna, a 100-foot front porch with rocking chairs, a screened porch, and a 30-by-30-foot deck overlooking the woods. The Lodge works especially well for family reunions, corporate retreats, private gatherings, and groups that actually want to spend time together rather than disappearing into separate hotel rooms at the end of the day.

Camp because I said I would is looking for volunteers to support the November Bereavement Retreat, November 20–22, 2026, in Walhonding, Ohio. Volunteers can choose from several shifts across the weekend and help with welcoming arriving families, parking, meals and refreshments, activity setup, reflection spaces, common areas, the remembrance bonfire, and Sunday departure and cleanup.

Volunteers must be at least 18. Closed-toe shoes are required, and volunteers working directly with bereavement retreat guests must complete a background check.
