Love catching these two least likely of friends together! I find it so incredible how all of our animals who interact are truly bonded and also have preferences for friends! Such sweet and unique personalities!
Elsa update! Our sweet girl is not healing as quickly as we had hoped. We changed course on her treatment plan last night. She is being heavily hit with antibiotics and her GI is not tolerating as well this time around. Did you know that chickens are one of the most difficult farm animals to clear an infection? Many times, they require up to a month of antibiotics. Our girl wraps up next week and I am hoping the new anti inflammatory will do its job to get her swelling down. She is up and moving, but walking mostly on the back of her leg and hock to keep pressure off of the joint and foot. The swelling extended down her leg to the foot, so she is still quite sore in a normal position. I am keeping her very comfortable on pain medication. Her lump is slightly smaller and we are waiting for her body to do its job and absorb the edema, which may take a while. In the meantime, she is rehabbing intensively, up in her wheelchair sling to encourage muscle memory and correct leg positioning. Unfortunately once this breed starts to become immobile, it is very difficult to get them going again due to their size. Elsa has a long road to recovery ahead, but I believe she will do it! She is such a little feisty fighter and her spirits are high! She is enjoying sunbathing and relaxing with her friends 🩷
