Fundraiser Alert!

Hi everyone,

This special fundraising project is in support of Halfway Home Animal Rescue Team, who always helps the animals who are most in need in our community. Our family has fostered dogs for this organization for over a year in addition to running our own small animal rescue which has been a great experience. 🐶🐾

From May 2–10, you can participate in this fundraising effort by shopping at thrivecausemetics.com and in the spot where it says “discount code” using the code HALFWAYHOME. 10% of your purchase will be donated to this organization. There’s still time to order before Mother’s Day! 🥰

Thrive Causemetics is a makeup and skincare company that so cares deeply about giving back, and they always donate a portion of their proceeds to their Giving Partners. They have so generously made this fundraiser possible.

Please consider joining in on this special fundraising effort. Anyone who participates is helping to make a difference and save lives! 💕

After sharing such sad news yesterday, it’s time for a little HAPPINESS! Let’s hear it for our twins Lily & Luca who were adopted into the most loving and attentive “forever home!” We rescued these sweeties from our local county shelter when they could fit in the palm of our hand. They were surrendered with another rabbit who had special needs that another local rescue found a home for. It took time for our babies to grow, for them to be old enough for Luca’s neuter, and then eventually Lily’s spay. All the while we were working on preserving the bond between them. We eventually transitioned from calling them “the babies” to “the twins” or “the L’s.” 🥰 Day after day their confidence grew, they learned how to respond to the treat bag shaking by sprinting towards us, and they really grew into their personalities and their bodies. Luca has the coolest rocker hair that sometimes got in the way of his eyes requiring a little haircut, but otherwise these two are very low maintenance. They use their litterbox like champs and they love to eat! We waited patiently as it is very hard to find homes for pairs, especially a home that will understand the complexity of their bond. Then Vinny and his awesome family came along. They had been preparing for months to add bunnies into their home and when they saw Lily & Luca they knew it was a perfect match. We both prepared, and before you know it, it was adoption day! One of the coolest things about this adoption is that their family also has human twins so they understand the complexity of the bond. For example, Lily is more confident and so she’s the natural leader. Luca likes to to observe but he’s as sweet as pie. Twins with twins for life! Feels like a match made in heaven. Thank you so much to Vinny and his amazing family for opening up their home and hearts to OUR twins. This feels like a full circle moment and we’re going to soak it up for a little while. This has been a long time coming and it’s the sweetest moment. We know they will keep this family smiling for years to come. Happy life, sweet L’s! This is what it’s all about. Please join us in sending the world’s biggest congratulations to this dynamic duo!💗

Rest in Peace Milo. It’s not the update we were hoping to share. Our sweet, courageous, strongest boy went to heaven after fighting as hard as he could for as long as he could. He leaves behind so many broken hearts of people who loved him so deeply. It’s taken a while for us to process this because he fought so hard and was so full of life.

Milo came to us after being dumped at a county shelter with horribly overgrown incisors (teeth)- with rabbits their teeth grow continuously throughout their life so if they are not properly aligned, they grow out of control. In conjunction with FOCAS, after several dental surgeries spanning months, then his neuter, he was finally free of the pesky teeth and could live a carefree life. Milo found a forever home with one of our most favorite adopters who had adopted our Buddy almost exactly 7 years prior. When Buddy passed, they took some time to grieve and eventually Milo stole their hearts. For over a year, Milo was the center of their worlds, watching daily sports and tv shows with his family. He always had to be near them and he won them all over with his larger-than-life personality. He was cherished, loved, and he was FAMILY. We are all devastated by this loss. He was supposed to have so much more time. It just doesn’t feel fair, but we are thankful he had a life with a family who fought alongside him. This is all we can hope for when our Hug-a-Bunnies find homes. One thing we all know for sure is that we have the best guardian angel looking down on us all. We are sending so much love to the Cicero family as they continue to mourn the loss of a once in a lifetime rabbit. 💔

Milo’s has been fighting, thank you all for the positive energy coming towards him!

This first photo shows two moments- Milo on his adoption day and almost exactly 7 years earlier to the day, his family had adopted our Hug-a-Bunny Buddy. When Buddy passed after living the best life, his family wasn’t sure they’d ever be able to open up their home to love another… enter Milo (our Yeko). He won over every single family member one by one with his charm and bigger-than-life personality. He is simply the best. Just look at how these beautiful kids have grown, the two luckiest bunnies, and the same amazing hearts. Especially that mama Bear Stacey who has been alongside Milo every minute.

Flip ➡️ (trigger warning!) to see Milo in the hospital. He’s doing his best to overcome. He started pooping again but he’s still very unwell due to his breathing. Please keep funneling your prayers and positivity his way. We all love you, Milo. 💗💕

**Collective energy needed!** Our sweet adopted boy Yeko (now Milo) is currently fighting for his life and could use all the positive energy and prayers he can get. Please help us in funneling all the positivity towards Milo and his family! He made it through hard things before, we feel he can do it now. He is loved beyond measure by so many. Thank you! 💗💗

With Easter approaching, like many other rescues, we shut down operations to make sure that people are not just getting rabbits for the holiday or misusing rabbits during this season. After the holiday, there is always an influx of animals in need. People who get rabbits and then realize their kids aren’t interested (one of the many reasons rabbits aren’t good pets for homes with children) or find out how much work they entail. While our main goal is obviously finding homes for our rescued animals, we also believe that people can and should be educated on why rabbits need to be protected. This Easter holiday season, please give gifts… of candy, toys, chocolates, stuffed animals, and NOT live rabbits. Let’s make this season a little easier on our bunny friends (and their rescuers)! 💗🐰

10/10 Flop! This is a familiar sight seen by adopted Georgie’s mom, Paige. Georgie (formerly Kiwi of our Fruit Babies) is living the good life. This sweet girl has her favorite “flopping spots” and is the real princess in their home. Just look at those lips! The Fruit Babies turned 4 on their last birthday in October and are all so loved and cherished in their homes. We love getting updates from our adopted Hug-a-Bunnies, please send to us so we can share! This is what forever looks like! 💗

Adoptable pair Lily and Luca are starting off 2026 cozy and snuggly, patiently waiting for their “forever home!” We wanted to give an update on our dynamic duo to let you know what they’ve been up to and how they are now.

Over the last several months we had Luca neutered, then we had Lily spayed. These two surgeries are now triple the cost of what we have always paid at our same vet so it’s changed the way we operate in our rescue and who we can afford to help. Lily and Luca’s spay AND neuter were sponsored by the most amazing people- Jen and Buddy and their beautiful girl gang- who made a generous donation that allowed us to save these two lives. THANK YOU so much for your generosity. (Side note- thank you as always to all of our donors who make this all possible!)

We are lucky that Lily and Luca’s bond is still as strong as ever. They are now full grown “teenagers” and are as cute and sweet as could be. As is common in pairs, they rely on humans slightly less because they have each other. Lily is the more courageous of the pair. Luca usually falls back and follows. They are very low maintenance, amazing with their litterbox, great eaters, and laid back. They do like to explore and need a lot of space. They live in an exercise pen enclosure with a lot of time out daily to explore. They likely would be overwhelmed by small children, and as young rabbits themselves need a home that can commit to the next 8-10 years.

Yes, we know they are gorgeous. Lily looks like an angel and look at Luca’s beard! We have had so many emails over the months of people who “want them” but don’t fully understand the needs of a pair. We want this home to be forever. If you were ever thinking of opening up your home to a pair of amazing rabbits and can offer them all of the above for 8-10 years, please reach out at [email protected] for more information and our adoption application. These sweet siblings are waiting patiently for their perfect match to find them.

We hope everyone in NJ is staying cozy & warm today during this snow! We wanted to share news that will definitely warm your hearts. Many of our followers watched the story of our Hug-a-Bunny Yeko unfold over many months. We took him in knowing he had major dental issues hoping we could help him, through multiple surgeries over many months, his teeth (like all rabbit teeth) were determined to grow back. We luckily had the amazing organization FOCAS also committed to helping Yeko, and they stuck by him and us the whole time. Finally, after many surgeries and recoveries, we got to a point where Yeko was finally toothless and adoptable and then we had to look for a family who could look beyond his past and look towards his future. Enter amazing Stacey who had adopted amazing Buddy from us 7 years before. The Cicero family gave Buddy the most beautiful life and were finally ready to open up their home again after losing him. Crazy enough I had always thought Yeko had the same unique essence as Buddy and seemed like the perfect fit. Almost exactly 7 years to the day, Yeko entered their home and became Milo. Since that day, his family has cherished him- they have cut up his hay/veggies and have cuddled daily. Let these photos be proof of the happiest life. Through the many months of uncertainty and surgeries, many people would ask me if it was worth it- the heartache, unknown, helping him get through recoveries. We never wavered- of course if he was willing to fight, we would be there alongside him. So many countless moments we can’t ever document (more to come) but let these photos be proof that his life mattered. This is one reason why we currently keep our rescue small so that we can devote ourselves fully to those in our care. I’m proud of us for never giving up, grateful for the Cicero family for opening up their home, but most of all proud of Milo who never gave up his spirit. He never lost the special spark that made him perfectly himself. Milo will always be one of our biggest success stories. Let us offer a happy “Gotcha Day” and formal congratulations on Milo’s “forever home” where we know he is loved and cherished beyond measure. Every life matters. 💗
