TIME CAPSULE UPDATE:

Digging will commence July 3 around 8 am.

Expectations - We do expect it to take some time to get the vault out of the ground and get the lid off. It could be several hours. If people wish to gather and watch that is fine, but please remain on the south side of the lawn. It will likely be hot that day so bring water and a chair if you wish to stay a while.

Just so everyone is prepared, there is a good chance that it is wet inside the vault due to condensation build up over time. However, this does not necessarily mean the items are ruined. Once we get the lid off, we will be able to assess the condition of the items inside. If everything is mostly intact, the items will be removed and placed on tables to further dry and be photographed. If everything is ruined, this will be very unfortunate, but out of our hands.

In assuming that most things will be in good condition, we will take inventory of everything and photograph it. We will then invite people to come look at the items. We are unaware of any list that exists indicating who put what inside the vault. If there is a list in the vault or if the items are labeled in some way, people may reclaim the items they or their relatives put in the vault if they wish. Unclaimed items will remain at the museum until they are claimed or sufficient time has passed to archive them. If nothing is labeled in any way, the Museum and the County will discuss the appropriate action to take regarding the items and let the public know what will be done.

We are very excited to open the time vault and share this experience with our community.
