EAGLE SCOUT LEGEND: STEVEN SPIELBERG—Long before Steven Spielberg became one of the most influential filmmakers in history, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

His journey behind the camera even has roots in Scouting. While working toward the Photography merit badge, a young Spielberg created an 8mm film, helping spark a lifelong passion for visual storytelling.

From Jaws and E.T. to Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, Spielberg went on to shape generations of filmmaking. In 1989, he was also recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

His story is a reminder that the skills, interests, and confidence developed through Scouting can become the foundation for extraordinary things.

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.

Troop 417 Honor Guard led the Knights of Columbus at St. Peter’s to celebrate the United States Semiquincentennial. Father Woods was joined by Father Patrick Riffle, US Navy Chaplain (LCDR), currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC (MCIEAST-MCB) where he ministers to our Marines. Father Woods was particularly happy for the opportunity to play the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America on the church organ.

Congratulations, Donovan, on completing the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at Philmont Scouting Ranch, NM.

Our Scouts had an outstanding week at summer camp! Not only did they have a great time, but several were recognized for their character, leadership, and service.

Anthony and Tyson were each awarded a camp poker chip by the camp staff for assisting four female Scouts—one of whom had injured her foot—by lighting their way with flashlights until adult help arrived.

Evan received a camp poker chip from the waterfront staff for taking the time to help a younger Scout improve his swimming strokes, resulting in a noticeable improvement in the Scout's performance.

Our Senior Patrol Leader, Basil, was honored with the Tommy Murray Honor Camper Medal in recognition of his exceptional leadership and outstanding performance throughout the week.

In addition to these individual honors, our troop earned the Unit Award of Excellence, a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and positive attitude demonstrated by all of our Scouts. Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic week at camp!
