A huge thank you to Ivy and Pearls of Southern Maryland Community Charities, Inc. and Nu Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for spending the day serving at El Roi House.

Volunteers planted flowers, prepared soil, cleared grass, spread mulch, and helped create welcoming outdoor spaces for the women and children who call Poiema home. They also helped prepare two of our garden beds, planting strawberries, peppers, tomatoes, and herbs that residents will be able to enjoy in the months ahead.

A special shoutout to Poiema volunteer Lois, who helped prepare and fill the other six garden beds. We are also grateful to NEWLIFE Church, whose donation of the garden beds last year helped make this project possible.

Thank you to everyone who donated supplies, rolled up their sleeves, and spent their time serving. It takes many hands working together to create places where women and children can heal, grow, and build a brighter future. 🌸🍓🌿🍅

A little over 6 months ago, Sarah walked through Poiema’s doors carrying burdens that felt impossible to bear. Today, we celebrate the courage, determination, and growth she has shown every step of the way.

Over the last six months, Sarah has worked hard to build financial stability, make healthier choices, and surround herself with a strong, supportive community. While the journey hasn't always been easy, she continues to show up and do the work of healing.

In Sarah's words:

"Poiema has taught me that healing isn’t linear, and is never meant to be gone through alone. I was broken, lost, and afraid to trust anyone when I walked through these doors. Now I’m learning everyday how to trust again, let others be there for me, and embrace the messy process of healing. I’m not the same girl that walked through those doors 6 months ago. I’m stronger, more courageous, and I’ve been given the gift of hope for a future for myself."

Praise God! Sarah, we are SO proud of you and will continue cheering you on. We can't wait to see what the next chapter holds.

Healing takes time and consistent support. Partner with us as a monthly giver and help more women like Sarah move from brokenness to restoration. ✨💗💐

A huge THANK YOU to the SGA Class of 2028 at LPHS!! 💛🏡🧴

These incredible students chose to support Poiema Movement through a schoolwide donation drive, collecting essential household and toiletry items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and cleaning supplies. Many women who come into Poiema arrive with very little. These items help provide dignity, comfort, safety, and care during such an important season of rebuilding their lives.

Quote from LPHS SGA President: "Supporting Poiema Movement was especially meaningful to our students and sponsors because of the organization's dedication to helping women and children who are rebuilding their lives. We wanted to contribute to a cause that provides safety, hope, and essential resources to families in need within our local community."

We are grateful to everyone who donated and helped make this possible. Seeing young people step up to support women and children in crisis is powerful, and we are incredibly thankful for this partnership!!

What a beautiful afternoon at the annual Sisterhood Tea hosted by LifePoint Church💐☕️🫖

A huge thank you to Sisterhood for choosing to support Poiema Movement through generously donated items for the women and children in our program. The tables and shelves were covered with essential products that bring dignity, comfort, and confidence to the women and children we serve. Thank you to ALL who donated.

A special thank you to Amber Anyanwu, who helped coordinate this beautiful event and faithfully serves as a Poiema board member. 🩷 Your heart for women and the community is so evident. And thank you to LifePoint for generously hosting this event.

Special thanks to all of the table hosts and Sisterhood volunteers who helped make the day so welcoming, thoughtful, and beautifully done. It was also special to see Poiema volunteers show up too.

And last but certainly not least, we are so proud of Erin, a Poiema graduate who now serves as Resident Manager, who shared her story and spoke during the event. GO ERIN!! Thank you for representing Poiema with such authenticity and care.

When women come together and support one another, it creates space for healing and restoration.

We are so incredibly proud of our Executive Director, Tiffany Barber, who was recently selected as the College of Southern Maryland's 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient!

This award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated outstanding success in their field, a strong commitment to community, and a heart for service, and there is no one more deserving than Tiffany. From graduating second (yes, second!) in the CSM Nursing Class of 2000 to leading Poiema Movement with passion, integrity, vision, and a people-first heart, Tiffany has spent her life and career showing up for others.

Every day at Poiema, we get a front row seat to her leadership. She leads with an unwavering belief that every woman and child deserves a chance to move from brokenness to restoration. Some leaders lead from a distance, but not Tiffany. She is in it with you, showing up every single day with authenticity, consistency, and a heart that is fully in this mission.

Tiffany, you are changing lives and inspiring everyone around you! We are so proud of you. This recognition is a clear picture of what God is doing through your life.

✨If Tiffany has impacted or touched your life in any way, we would love to hear from you, drop a comment below and let us know. ✨

Congratulations, Tiffany. We love you and we are honored to serve alongside you.

Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to attend the Chick-fil-A Impact Accelerator Conference in Atlanta alongside nonprofit leaders from across the country who are doing powerful work in their communities.

This year’s theme was The Power of Storytelling. As nonprofit leaders, storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to help people see the impact happening every single day.

A huge thank you to Ken and Melissa Weikel for sponsoring our trip to Atlanta. Your consistent investment in Poiema, both personally and professionally, means more than you know. Thank you for continually pouring your time, encouragement, and support into this mission.

We are also SO thankful for Sandy Washington from LifeStyles and the time we spent traveling, learning, collaborating, and encouraging one another. The conversations and heart shared for this community were impactful in so many ways.

And special shout out to Debera Taylor and Ann Davis from the Spring Dell Center. Thank you for the fellowship and shared ideas.

There is something powerful about leaders working together, sharing vision, and supporting one another for the greater good of the community we serve.

We are leaving Atlanta full. Full of gratitude, full of inspiration, full of purpose (and full of the BEST food).

We cannot wait to get back to serving our community with even greater collaboration and intention. ❤️🐔✨

What a powerful day at the 3rd Annual New Life Church 5K Prayer Walk.

This past weekend, so many people showed up to walk, support, and most importantly pray over the mission of Poiema.

We circled around New Life church in unity, standing in the gap for women and children in crisis, believing for healing, restoration, protection, and hope. We believe the prayers spoken that day will have a lasting impact far beyond what we can see right now.

What we pour into others matters. When one person pours, there is a ripple effect.
Want to help pour into Poiema and make an impact?
