For years, Ken Weikel and the Chick-fil-A team have shown up for Poiema with such generosity and consistency. Since 2021, they’ve supported Poiema in so many ways. One of those is providing lunch each month for Be Our Guest, an event where people from the community can come experience the heart of our mission.

Today, Ken and his team came to Be Our Guest and presented Poiema with a check from our recent gallon fundraiser, where HUNDREDS of gallons were sold in just one week to support the women and children we serve.

It was such a full-circle moment to receive that gift at an event they have faithfully supported for years.

Thank you to everyone who bought a gallon and support this work. And to Ken, Melissa, and the Chick-fil-A teams at Waldorf and Smallwood Drive, thank you for continuing to believe in this mission, invest in it, and show up for the women and children of Poiema.

This month, Sarah shared with our staff that she successfully completed ALL of her therapy goals.

In Sarah’s own words:
“My therapist encouraged me to share this with you all, but I successfully completed ALL my goals in therapy that I’ve had so far. They were due by 9/1 and she said it’s incredibly rare to complete them all and they usually roll over. I made her cry today she’s so happy for me. A lot of my goals were around boundaries and setting them, redirecting my thoughts and the personal relationships I have. I’m just in disbelief. I never thought I would be this person. Or that I was capable of this kind of life. I’m full of gratitude for you all and Poiema.”

Yesterday, we joined United Way of the National Capital Area at the Blue Crabs stadium for their Southern Maryland Community Celebration!💙

It was an honor to connect with other local nonprofits and community partners doing such incredible work throughout our area.

Poiema’s Volunteer Coordinator, Carrie, especially appreciated United Way’s focus on working families struggling to make ends meet. What stayed with her most was how United Way sees them not just as statistics, but as families doing their best who need a way forward.

That resonates with us at Poiema. There’s power in seeing people, recognizing what they’re carrying, and choosing to come alongside them.

Last month, we asked you to pray for the launch of Healing Care. Today, we get to share a praise report: those prayers are bearing fruit.

In this video, Executive Director Tiffany and Program Director Ruth share why this Christ-centered, trauma-informed component of our program is so important.

Today, one resident shared:
“Healing Care helps me be able to talk about what happened to me growing up. Before Healing Care, I wasn’t able to talk about it but now, I feel safe in this group to share. This is helping me heal. I feel safe with the facilitator who makes it easy to talk about hard things.”

That is a win. A resident feeling safe enough to share what she has carried silently and take courageous steps toward healing.

What an inspiring day at the 12th Annual Women to Women Regional Summit!

This year’s message centered on learning from generations different from our own and recognizing our responsibility to keep opening doors for the women coming behind us.

Keynote speaker Tamika Tremaglio shared so much wisdom about leadership and character. One statement that stuck with us was, “Your title is rented. Your character is what you own.” She encouraged us to lead with kindness, build others up, get to the root of problems instead of simply managing the symptoms, and remember that love moves before it calculates.

We also saw that message lived out at Rod ’N’ Reel Resort (where the conference was held), where three generations of women are carrying on their family’s legacy.

It connected so closely with what we believe at Poiema Movement: when we take the time to see, support, and invest in women, we help open doors to a different future, not only for them, but for the generations that follow. ❤️

We have some GOOD news to celebrate! (see picture below)❤️

At Poiema, we believe restoration happens through three important parts:

🌱 What She Does: She chooses to show up, take steps forward, and actively participate in her own growth.

🤝 What the Community Does: Staff, volunteers, mentors, churches, and supporters come alongside her with encouragement, resources, and a community of support.

✝️ What Only God Can Do: God transforms the heart, brings healing, and restores in ways only He can.

Today, we’re celebrating her decision to pursue God and the beautiful work He is doing in her life.

Join us in praying for her as she continues to grow in her relationship with God and walk forward in faith. This is only the beginning for her!
