The Arts at Saint Paul's Union Chapel

The Arts at Saint Paul's Union Chapel The Arts at Saint Paul's Union Chapel is a program of community based visual and performing arts. St. There is no longer a minister associated with the chapel.

Paul’s Chapel on Dutch Neck in Waldoboro was built as a Union Chapel in 1885 (dedicated in 1886), on land donated by Captain Stahl in 1883. The historic church is located next to the Dutch Neck Schoolhouse (District Number One) and the Dutch Neck Cemetery. The founding congregation chose to be a non-denominational group. This idea is represented in the title by the inclusion of the word union. Lat

er it became connected with the Methodist Episcopal Church which provided seminarians or vacationing ministers to several area chapels on a “Circuit” including Bremen and West Waldoboro for services held June through September. By the end of the 1960’s there was only an annual service. For many years the late Michael Murphy led the annual service. A small group of local residents, the St. Paul’s Chapel Society, serves to maintain the chapel and nearby schoolhouse and hosts the annual church service. The scale and atmosphere of the building lend themselves to contemplation and reflection. The space is acoustically rich for both music and the spoken word.
