Conserving land for ecological resiliency and access for all is what we are about here at Midcoast Conservancy.

A PhD student at the .of.maine is working on a research project examining coastal spruce forests across Maine to better understand how this unique ecological community might cope under changing climate conditions. This summer they inventoried twenty forest plots along the coast of Maine, including one of 's coastal preserves.

Part of the project involved coring trees. Coring does not hurt the tree. This process gives a unique insight into the life history of an individual tree. Not only do the rings indicate how old the tree is, but also if and when the tree expirenced a drought, fire, or other environmental conditions.

Water quality vs air quality
During our regular estuary monitoring trip, the hazy sky and red sun were clear indicators of the smoke that has been blowing in from some Canadian wildfires.
A good reminder that even when something isn't happening in our backyard, we are still all connected
