June is Pollinator Month! 🐝🦋🪰 One of the best ways to support pollinators is by creating healthy habitat. Planting native species, encouraging the native plants already on your land, and removing invasive plants that outcompete native plants can help increase the presence of pollinators in the landscape. Habitat loss and invasive species are two leading causes of pollinator decline, but small actions make a big difference! If you'd like to see pollinators in action, visit one of our many town properties that are open to the public! Quarry Hill Preserve, The Town Forest, and even our Pocket Parks are home to many different pollinators! If you'd like to know what plants are good for pollinators, or what you can do to help in your own backyard, comment below!

Come join the Waldoboro Community Garden Club for a walk in the 63.5 acre Waldoboro Town Forest on Saturday, May 17th at 10:00am, rain or shine.

With a 7 acre grove of hemlock trees more than 200 years old, the Waldoboro Town Forest has one of only 11 documented old-growth hemlock stands in Maine and was designated a Maine Critical Area in 1983. Hemlocks can reach ages of 400 years in Maine, so this stand is only just reaching biological maturity. Hopefully we will also see Pink Lady’s Slippers! These native orchids are a springtime delight to behold.

The trial is 1.5 miles long. Wear comfortable walking shoes suitable for wet areas and tick protection.

Directions to the Waldoboro Town Forest:
From Rt 1 across from Libby’s Tree Service,
turn onto West Main Street (Old Rt 1). Then turn right into the commuter parking lot. The trail entrance is at the south end of the lot beyond the trail sign.
