We are having some serious work done to improve drainage in the parking lot and add some additional parking. Because of this, the Waldoboro Free Clothing Closet will be closed tomorrow. Please pass this information along because the driveways will be full of earth transforming vehicles and very heavy equipment. The other work which will be done is the heavy equipment part of the community garden prep work.

spreading the word before spreading the seeds

It's EARTH DAY. It's a good day to think about gardens, even if it's pretty cold around here - maybe especially because it's pretty cold around here. At Medomak Exchange we're thinking about the Community Garden we're planning in the space between the driveways at the Medomak House. We have begun the clearing work which will continue over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to volunteer with the intended Common Garden or if you would like a small plot to plant for yourself/family, send an email to [email protected] and we'll give you more details.

We are proud to be part of the green fifteen - the 15% of textile waste that gets reused, recycled, repaired, repurposed and upcycled!

Your gently worn clothes are reusable, making them a valuable resource for both people and the planet. When you donate, you’re helping to:
Divert textiles from landfills where they leech toxins into the environment
Support the circular secondhand clothing economy which creates economic opportunities
Reduce demand for new textile manufacturing to conserve valuable natural resources and reduce pollution

You can vote for both Medomak Exchange, which is the organizing center of the Waldoboro Free Clothing Closet, Good Things Thrift & Crafts, the Medomak House and upcoming community garden and host to the Food Pantry AND for the Free Clothing Closet!

Each February, thousands of votes are cast by the people of Maine and New Hampshire during the Community Matters More campaign, Then The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation will donate more than $100,000 to the following local non-profit organizations based on the communities votes.

UPDATE - THANKS to several additional donors we have reached our $750 goal and slightly exceeded it!! The campaign will end at noon on 12/15 (tomorrow). Additional donations are most welcome. The planning for this garden will continue through the winter, with a small forest garden and several beds for folks who don't have access to garden space to plant. Our vision includes teaching sustainable gardening practices as we go. Thanks to Midcoast Solidarity for their interest in working with this project! So while the ground is frozen and covered with snow and ice, resting, we will be the ones with the creative juices flowing in some quiet preparation.
