We have some fun, interesting news for all our flag football families. After 17 years under NFL FLAG we have decided to make the switch to the AFFL (American Flag Football league) there's only so many seasons you can wear the Jets and Bengals jerseys lol, apologies to any Jets or Bengal's fans 😉 Anyway the AFFL has been in existence since 2017 and now offering youth flag football with new and exciting rules. We know rules and exciting don't usually go together but in this case they do, the AFFL version of flag football is more like "real football" than any other flag league out there and with more of a community feel than was possible before.
What's NOT changing.....
Still 5on5, non-contact flag football fun for boys AND girls.
Can still play the sport we all love with your friends in your own town or a nearby one.
Same registration fees as last season.
Still 2x20 min halves.
Still no blocking, no fumbles, no diving, no contact, so as safe a sport as ever.
Will still have fun tournaments.
What IS changing......
New jerseys with town league logo, numbers on jersey and names (names optional)
Choose your own team name.
Max 12 players per team.
2 referees per field.
Player cards for age verification (not required for lil ballers and 6U division)
QB can run the ball anytime a defender crosses the link of scrimmage.
Pitches and laterals are allowed.
No more 7 yd rush line (no more impeding the rush calls), defender can be on line of scrimmage and go in on 3 count OR Blitz from line (twice per half)
1,2 and 3 point conversions.
PRO style clock in last minute.
Throw offs.
Onside kicks (no actual kicks just one play, see below for explanation)
State Championships/National Championships/International Championships.
We are actually running the new rules in the summer league and so far and the coaches and kids LOVE it. its like bringing the fun back to flag football as if it wasn't enough fun already!!! One parent said "its like when we used to play years ago with the throw offs and blitzing" a coach stated "its more like football, as they can now pitch/lateral and run some of the plays they do in real football without as many restrictions as there was before and adds a little more strategy to the game"
Our goal has not changed since we started the league in 2004, we want everyone to play flag football and HAVE FUN in a safe atmosphere, it doesn't matter if you are a boy or girl, slow or fast, tall or short, everyone can play flag and everyone can feel like part of a TEAM and play flag football just for the sake of playing flag football.
Fall sign ups are going on now for all our towns and some new ones (go to www.newenglandflagfootball.com and click on locations to see the full list) the fall schedules are also posted and if you cant make the schedule work in your own town, take a look at one close to you that might work. As always if you have any questions contact us [email protected] | 978-338-4108.
If you are interested in starting your own league with the AFFL if your town contact us and we can help you get up and running!!
Have a great rest of the summer and see everyone on the field this fall!!
