During the 30 days leading up to SK's 107th Veteran's Day (inc Armistice Day) we will honor our VFPost Commanders whose shoulders we stand on. Here is local legend Richard "Dick" Ellsworth. He served during the Korean War and joined our Post in 1954. He was our CDR 1960-61. He was the chair or co -chairman of our Post Holiday Toy drives for over a decade (57'-68.)

This letter was delivered today for us to diseminate to our post members and neighbors. See if you qualify for fuel assistance this winter. Oil is insane high already averaging ~$6 a gal locally

We are so excited to be a part of the "Salute to Summer" event next Saturday afternoon at the SK Town Beach . Live music, tons of cool stuff for kids of all ages to do and our booth will include Purple Heart Rock Painting, glitter tattoos and Scratch Art. We will be squeezing out one more family fun beach day before the leaves turn! It's a totally free event (parking, crafts, music) with amazing food trucks available too!

We learned today that a WWII Pilot who was MIA/KIA since 1944 was found and his remains are returning to RI and will be laid to rest next to his parents at Riverside Cemetery. When the details are announced we will post the details, but it will be next week around Aug 28. Franklin McKinney welcome home.

As an FYI- members of the VFW have lowered the following flags to honor VFW member John Sheldon who is being laid to rest today:
1) Vietnam Veteran Memorial at Dale Carlia Corner
2) War Veteran Monument at Saugatucket Park.
3) Our VFW Post US Flag.
We have been doing this at least since Covid. If a Veteran's name is on the Saugatucket Monument, that flag is lowered on their day of interment. If they are a Vietnam Veteran, the Dale Carlia corner flag is lowered. If they are members of our Post, our Post flag is lowered. This is why you may have noticed not all veteran flags in SK are lowered at the same time.
John met all three requirements so all three flags lowered in his honor. Rest well brother.
