June 6th is the anniversary of the World War II Allied invasion in Normandy, France, now known as D-Day. 2026 celebrates the 82nd anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, and with it, yet another occasion to celebrate peace, liberty and reconciliation.

The next meeting of the VFW Auxiliary is May 18, 2026, at 6:30 pm. We will be installing the newly elected officers for the 2026 - 2027 year. We would love to see you there.

to congratulate Bailee Billinger for being chosen for their $1000 scholarship. Bailee was recognized at the Evening of Excellence on May 6, 2026, at the Trego Community High School. Congratulations Bailee!

On March 3rd each year the Navy Reserve celebrates its birthday. The Navy Reserve was formed in 1915 in response to the outbreak of WWI. The Navy Reserve made up almost 84% of the Navy's fighting force during the war. Among its ranks were 5 future US Presidents and 15 recipients of the Medal of Honor. The Navy Reserve has since had reservists serve in every major war in which the United States has fought. Happy Birthday to the Navy Reserve on March 3rd!

February 8-14 is National Salute to Veteran Patients week. It is a way of honoring and supporting veterans in medical facilities across the nation. It's a way of honoring men and women who have served in the US armed forces and are currently receiving medical care at VA facilities. Thank you for your service!

There will be a ceremony at the Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney on Saturday December 13, 2025, and placing of wreaths for Wreaths Across America. It begins at 11:00 am at 403 S 13th St WaKeeney. The 75th Christmas City of the High Plains tree lighting is November 29th. There are activities all day long to enjoy. The VFW Auxiliary is having a soup supper from 4:30 till 7:00 pm at the post. We will be serving 5 different soups to choose from with crackers, veggies and desserts for you to enjoy. Hope to see you on Saturday in WaKeeney!

October 26 is recognized as the National Day of the Deployed, a day dedicated to honoring those deployed in service to the U.S. military. This observance honors all service members who have been deployed in service of our country. The day also acknowledges the sacrifices that military families make during deployment. Let us never forget the sacrifices of our deployed military service members.

September 18, 2025, is the US Air Force's birthday. The Air Force was established in 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947 and has since proven itself as an unrivaled force in aviation. Its mission is to fly, fight, and win - airpower anytime, anywhere. Happy 78th birthday US Air Force!
