Embrace Uganda

Embrace Uganda to encourage and empower a generation of orphans, one village at a time. It has a school without walls (it meets under a tree).

Kaihura:

Embrace Uganda grew out of the Hamp’s and Cobin’s love for Jane’s home, for the orphans and other vulnerable children that lived in her village of Kaihura. Since the Fall of 2007, our non-profit, fully volunteer organization has, along with its Ugandan partner, Bringing Hope to the Family, constructed a new home for Home Again Orphanage, finished the existing Dorcas Vocational School, ma

de improvements to a public school in the area, and supported clean water initiatives and self-sustaining agricultural projects. It is now in the process of raising the additional funds to complete the building of the Hope Again Medical Clinic. Bukerere:

While change is coming to Kaihura, the work of Embrace Uganda doesn’t end there. Miles away, just outside the capital of Kampala in the town of Bukerere, another orphanage needed our help. Team members have lived, played, and worked with the children and housemothers of Agape Childrens’ Village. With our other Ugandan partners, African Church Empowerment Ministries and Agape Baptist Church, we have assisted in construction projects to better the community’s school and the grounds of the orphanage. In addition, when we learned that the orphanage would lose its funding, resulting in the “reintegration” of the children into communities that often cannot support them, Embrace Uganda committed to raising the necessary funds to support the orphanage, both from the outside as well as from small economic enterprises that could be developed on site. Koreng:

If you drive the rutted roads east from Bukerere, past Jinja, the source of the Nile River, and on to the plains of the Teso region, you will come to the community of Koreng. The hometown of Michael Okwakol, pastor of Agape Baptist Church and Director of African Church Empowerment Ministries, Koreng is a community with a lack of material resources but no lack of spirit. It lacks electricity, basic health care, easily accessible sources of clean water, and proper sanitation. And yet because of the work of Embrace Uganda, Kadicar Primary School now has clean drinking water, funding for additional teachers, and proper sanitation. We continue to assess how Embrace Uganda can contribute meaningfully to this impoverished area.

My dear friend Stephen Okurut is the Headteacher at Bukedea District Local Government (Uganda), which is close to Mbale (Uganda). Stephen and I go back many years now. We are brothers from different countries and cultures. I was blessed to help Stephen with his education years ago, allowing him to become the Headteacher at Bukedea District. His position is what we know as a Superintendent for our local school districts. Stephen was always a man who longed to give back to his community. When I met him in Uganda, I remember he was living in a mud hut while he was the principal of his local school. I asked him why he lived in a mud hut and not in a teacher’s brick house. He told me that he wanted the best for his teachers first before he would live in a brick house. This affirmed in me who this man was. Fast forward a few years, and Stephen has embarked on providing a way for graduating senior students to further grow in their education. He has been busy building an educational center for young students.

The idea behind this center is to offer training to the youth out of school on
1. Information Communication Technology.
2. Agricultural business management.
3. Work with communities and schools to promote education as a means of enhancing living conditions and providing a safe space for it.
The “Thorsten House Community Hub Center”, as he lovingly calls it, is almost complete. One significant item is painting. He has raised some of his funding, and I am helping him raise the rest to complete the job. We are $400 short of the origional $2000 to finish the project. Please help me to finish this.

All funds raised are 100% Tax deductible and are being handled by Embrace Uganda. You can donate on line or send a check. Please visit https://embraceuganda.org/donate to donate.

Yesterday, some of us delivered food and mosquito nets to hard to reached areas on Boda-Boda’s. It was a lot of fun, dusty and humbling to meet and pray with these individuals.
