Veterans’ Memorial of Wake Forest The Veterans' Memorial of Wake Forest pays tribute to Veterans from the Wake Forest community who served in war and died defending our freedom.

Such a monument has been long overdue and creates an awareness of those who should be honored so highly for giving their lives for our freedom. The Veterans' Memorial has a vision to preserve, for present and future generations, the meaning and lessons behind these special members of our community. We recognize that intergenerational awareness to continue to appreciate these individuals will depen

d upon education. Hence, the mission will be met by a perpetual maintenance fund to sponsor innovative commemorations and educational programs that foster an awareness of the historical significance of this monument. This photo, taken on November 23, 1944, near Geilenkirchen, Germany, shows PFC William G. Curtis (San Diego, California) and PFC Donald R. Stratton (Colville, Washington) enjoying their Thanksgiving dinner. Day after day, battle after battle, these two members of the 102nd Infantry Division confronted German forces, and risked their lives to liberate towns they didn't know, and people they didn't know. William and Donald both survived the war.

The difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day: As another Veterans Day approaches, Americans of every stripe have the opportunity to celebrate the sacrifice and selflessness that radiates from all military veterans. But a lot of Americans don’t know much about Veterans Day, and what’s worse, many confuse it with Memorial Day. Only through recognizing the true meaning and history of Veterans Day can Americans properly honor our veterans.
What’s the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?
