We are pleased to announce that the Wake Forest Memorial Flag-Raising Committee has received the 2025 Organization of the Year Award from the Town of Wake Forest. This award was presented by the Town of Wake Forest to the organization that provided the most outstanding community awareness during the year. Mark Dwyer (representing American Legion post 187) and Dan Shubert graciously accepted the award on behalf of the Flag-Raising Committee.

At 11:00 a.m. on the first Monday of the month from April through October a veteran from Wake Forest is honored for their dedication, service and sacrifice to the nation, state and town. The ceremony takes place in Centennial Circle in front of town hall, 301 S. Brooks Street. Members of the veteran’s family, friends and associates from the town and veteran organizations are represented at the ceremony. A commemorative American and service flag is prominently displayed for the entire month. At the end of that month the veteran’s flag is lowered, dry-cleaned, properly folded into a triangle display case, and presented to the family along with an engraved plaque at no cost to the family.

If you know of a veteran from Wake Forest that you would like to submit for recognition, please reach out to the American Legion post 187 and we’ll get you in touch with a committee member who can go over criteria for selection with you.

The pancake breakfast of January 2026 was a success with 110 people showing up to eat delicious pancakes, biscuits, gravy and sausage. We appreciated that our new Mayor, Ben Clapsaddle, also stopped in to say hi to everyone. Thank you to all who supported us!

In addition, we honored two of our helpers (Alex and Isabella) who've been faithfully serving our customers for the past 18 months. Mark Dwyer, Legion Commander, delivered them each a gift of thanks from the Legion.

Pictured below: Happy customers at the January breakfast, Alex and Isabella receiving their gifts, and Mayor Clapsaddle with Bob Rombach, one of our Legionnaires.
