Maui Okinawa Taiko Maui Okinawa Taiko (MOT) began in May of 1997 as a part of the Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai (MOKK) in orde

MOT consists of students ranging in age from 7 years old to adult. We practice the kumi-daiko style of our parent group, Mukaito Daiko, of Kitanakagusuku, Okinawa and include Okinawan songs in our repertoire. Mukaito Daiko meaning “Dream Crossing the Sea” was founded in 1991 with two main objectives: (1) to share their style and technique of Taiko, as well as the Okinawan culture with other countries around the world; (2) to honor the Issei or 1st generation of Japanese and Okinawan immigrants who traveled abroad, and risked their lives to seek a better life for future generations to come.

We're looking forward to performing at the Maui Matsuri next Saturday 5/23. 😀
