Hardships will occur often. It is up to us to change our perspective on life. The Bahay Kubo needed a lot of work and many hands in the community decided to spruce it up. It was an opportunity rather than a failure. When it was time to gather and fix the Bahay Kubo, the sponsors/donors, the committee, and the community had the same goal in mind. The Bahay Kubo was going to be redone. However we cannot focus on what tragedy was done but instead, what beautiful miracle was coming from this. Look up, appreciate and be grateful. It is all about perspective.

Our Filipino culture holds strong values in our hearts and in our generations. Filipinos pride themselves in honesty, integrity, faith and family. The Bahay Kubo was not a one person project, but rather, a community one. Similar to our lives, numerous hands and hearts play a part and it is evident that the impact is boundless.

Similar to the life of an immigrant, the Bahay Kubo and the people a part of this project, showed resilience, made sacrifices and dedicated their hard work for it to be what it is today. This historical site at Iao Valley on Maui has been a staple to many generations. Follow us on this journey to strengthening the foundation of this staple. Thankfully, the Bahay Kubo is now standing strong in its Iao Valley home.
