🌿 Meet Dr. Mālia Purdy, Executive Director of Hui No Ke Ola Pono!

Raised in Waiehu, Maui, Dr. Purdy’s journey is deeply rooted in her ʻohana, Hawaiian language, and the teachings of her kūpuna. From attending Hawaiian language immersion schools to earning a BS in Biology at Pacific University, a MPH in Native Hawaiian Health, and a PhD in Community-Based & Translational Research at UH Mānoa, her path reflects a lifelong commitment to learning, culture, and community.

Joining The Hui as Executive Director in 2022, Dr. Purdy believes her journey was guided by her kūpuna. Coming from a lineage of advocates, educators, and lāʻau lapaʻau practitioners, she is a product of the values and foundations instilled in her by the many kumu and mentors that have taught her along the way.

For Dr. Purdy, there is no greater honor than giving back to the community that shaped her and continuing the work of those who came before her.

Mahalo e Dr. Purdy for the work you do here at Hui No Ke Ola Pono!

At Hui No Ke Ola Pono, we believe healthier communities begin with empowered individuals and ʻohana. As one of five Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems, we connect health care with traditional Hawaiian values, beliefs, and practices to support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Through nutrition programs, health education, health management, and care referrals, we help our community build the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices and become their own health advocates.

Our vision is to nurture the navigators and healers within every family, strengthening our ability to care for ourselves and one another for generations to come.

While our mission centers on improving Native Hawaiian health, our doors are open to all. Whether you have a health question, want support for a loved one, or hope to build healthier habits, we’re here to help.

On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we are proud to look to the Indigenous wisdom and ʻike of our kūpuna. Their knowledge, values, and practices continue to sustain our communities and guide how we care for ourselves and one another.

At Hui No Ke Ola Pono, we honor this wisdom by connecting health care with traditional Hawaiian values and empowering each generation to be their own health advocates.

Together, we nurture physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and the navigators and healers within every ʻohana.
