Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows: A Decisions Maui and Focus Maui Nui Initiative Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows

Maui Nui occupies a special place in the state, country and world.

However, as Maui Nui residents, we face many challenges that could erode the unique splendor of our islands. Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows is a year-long program designed to train community-identified future leaders. A Decisions Maui and Focus Maui Nui initiative, the Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows program was conceived to promote and develop future leaders through a community-based program designed to address planning for Maui Nui’s future.

Mahalo to our friends at Maui County Emergency Management Agency for the kind words and for the opportunity to learn alongside your incredible team through Project Maui Nui.

Our Fellows gained so much from engaging with MEMA and learning firsthand what coordinated leadership, preparedness, and community care look like in action. Experiences like this are exactly why we challenge our Fellows with real-world issues — because resilience isn’t theoretical, it’s built through relationships, collaboration, and shared responsibility across Maui County.

A special mahalo to Amos Lonokailua-Hewett for being such a generous leader and example. MEMA — and leaders like Amos — truly represent the caliber of organizations and people our Fellows are fortunate to meet, learn from, and work alongside.

We are so grateful for your support and for helping shape the next generation of leaders committed to a stronger, more resilient Maui Nui. 🌺

So proud to see Ka Ipu Kukui featured and, even more importantly, to celebrate the incredible work of our 2026 Fellows! 🌟

Their deep thinking, collaboration, and commitment to strengthening Maui County is exactly what leadership for Maui Nui looks like in action. Through Project Maui Nui, Fellows take on real-world challenges that push them to understand the many layers of our community — from economic resilience to social well-being and long-term sustainability.

And that’s just one of the many hands-on experiences built into the Fellowship. We believe leadership is learned by doing, and our Fellows continue to rise to the occasion — asking hard questions, listening deeply, and stepping forward with solutions that help make Maui County a thriving place to live, work, and raise a family.

A heartfelt mahalo to our partners at Maui Economic Development Board and Pacific Disaster Center, and to the many coaches, judges, and expert guest speakers who generously shared their time and expertise. Your guidance and encouragement helped make this experience meaningful and impactful for our Fellows.

We couldn’t be prouder of the heart, insight, and dedication this cohort is bringing to our island home. 💛

✨ Applications for our next cohort open in April — if you’re ready to grow as a leader and make a difference in Maui Nui, we’d love to see you apply.

Project Maui Nui, presented by Maui Economic Development Board, convened the 16 fellows of the 2026 Ka Ipu Kukui cohort for an intensive three-day workshop to spark innovative solutions that strengthen resilience across Maui County.
