πŸͺ Did you know? An invasive species is defined by the USDA as "non-native (or alien) to the ecosystem under consideration, and a species whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm, or harm to human health."

May is HawaiΚ»i Invasive Species Awareness Month. Pictured here is an invasive umbrella tree that was removed after it had established around a water tank. If left alone, its roots could damage the infrastructure. Preventive maintenance like this is vital for both mitigating invasive species and protecting our drinking water.

We're celebrating Drinking Water Week (May 3-9, 2026)!

πŸ’§ From the source to the tap, so much work goes into ensuring the water we thrive on is safe and available. Life could not exist without water. We depend on water and wastewater professionals to bring that life-quenching liquid to us. Mahalo to all the water professionals out there, not just this week, but every day ❀️

It's National Apprenticeship Week (NAW)! πŸ€—

🌠 We're uplifting our apprentices this week and all the hard work they put in every day to learn the trade and keep our water safe. There are 6 apprentices in the HRWA Water Systems Operation Specialists program right now. We are honored to be able to offer this opportunity and are so thankful to our instructors, mentors, and past graduates who have contributed so much time and expertise to the program.

πŸ”§ This nationwide celebration recognizes and celebrates the value of registered apprenticeship in meeting critical industry needs, while also creating a path for people to start in-demand jobs.

🚰 Applications are open for our upcoming apprenticeship cohort starting in Fall 2026! Visit our website to see how to apply!
