The Nēnē is a native species to Hawai’i and is also the State Bird of Hawai’i. You can find them around the Waikoloa Beach Resort, and being that they are an endangered species, you should not attempt to touch them or feed them.
Nēnē nest between October and March and most eggs are laid between October and December.

Per the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, please abide by the “5 Keeps.”
1. Keep your food to yourself.
2. Keep your dogs on a leash.
3. Keep your cats inside your house.
4. Keep your speed down when you see a Nēnē near a road.
5. Keep your distance.

Aloha mai kākou!
We have wonderful news to announce!
ʻAnaeho‘omalu Kapalaoa has returned to the people.

27 acres of culturally significant shoreline at ‘Anaeho‘omalu Kapalaoa, located in Waikoloa Beach Resort have been permanently protected. This wahi pana (legendary, storied place) will now be stewarded by Nā ʻŌiwi O Puʻuanahulu, ensuring cultural practice, restoration and education for future generations.

“Kapalaoa is for all Hawaiians who love their ʻāina and know they belong there. The challenges are long and plenty, but ʻāina and kūpuna will rise up to meet you. Never give up,” said Lehua Alapa‘i of Nā ʻŌiwi O Puʻuanahulu.

The Waikoloa Foundation is humbled to support this effort together with Waikoloa Land Company, Trust for Public Land, the County of Hawaiʻi, the State Legacy Land Conservation Program and the Dorrance Family Foundation.
