‘Elepaio representing at the Capitol!

We were so blessed to talk with US Senator and US Representative about our Food as Medicine programs during our trip to Washington, D.C.

We work with physicians to integrate nutritious, culturally-rich foods into healthcare. Through our Food as Medicine programs, patients can receive monthly vouchers to buy local fruits, vegetables, and poi at .

By tracking patients health stats, we’re able to see how nutrition can treat and manage chronic illnesses.

Last week we attended ’s Hāloa Honors Award, which recognizes organizations whose leadership and generosity help nourish our community and care for Hawai’i’s families.

We’re extremely grateful to have received the Agency Partner of the Year award. In partnership with , we’re able to expand access to healthy, locally sourced foods across the Wai’anae Coast and strenuous local food economy and system.

Mahalo for the award and wonderful partnership!

Looking for something do to during summer break? Volunteer with some certified hammahz at our kūpuna pantries!

Each week we distribute fresh fruit, veggies, warm meals, and shelf-stable foods to about 1,200 kūpuna. But we can’t do it alone.

We rely on our strong volunteers (some kūpuna themselves!) to help us sort food, assemble boxes, and load supplies.

This group in the video shows up four times a week to help us distribute at all of our pantries!

Cuz if you’re seeing this, it’s time to volunteer at a kūpuna pantry. Email [email protected] to volunteer today.

Yesterday we had the honor of receiving an award from recognizing our work in serving the West Oʻahu community.

What started as a response to food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a community-led effort to serve the Waiʻanae Coast.

Since 2021, we’ve distributed more than 13 million pounds of food through our food pantries and
emergency distributions. Through , we’ve expanded access to fresh, locally grown food while bringing more than $3 million back into the Waiʻanae economy. And the work doesn’t stop there.

We’ve advancing food sovereignty by helping families plant crops and Native Hawaiian plants at home. We’re connecting food and healthcare through produce and food subscriptions. We’re creating opportunities for people to learn about the ʻāina and culture-based foods through wellness workshops.

In partnership with , we’re also building a community resilience hub that will include a 10,500-square-foot food warehouse, certified classroom, incubator kitchen, emergency shelter, and multi-use community center.

Mahalo and for your support and belief in this vision. So much has happened in the past five years, and there’s still so much more to come. 💚
