Aloha Kākou,

Kala mai itʻs been a wild few months for me taking care of some personal matters. Mahalo for your patience.

Anyway, letʻs get updated on some of the things that are happening in and around our Waiʻanae Valley Homestead.

1) Cesspool to Sewer Conversion PopUp:
WVHCA and DHHL were hosting a popup informational meeting in February but due to the Kona Low storms, the meeting was cancelled. Good news is that the meeting has now been rescheduled for Thursday, June 25th from 5:30-7:30pm. A postcard will be sent out from the department and a flyer posted on Social Media Platforms.

2) Information Briefing On Geothermal:
This is the new hot topic within the department and homesteads across the pae ʻāina. Please research this topic and attend this meeting that will DIRECTLY affect the Waiʻanae Valley Homestead. Waiʻanae Valley Homestead is slated as one of the homesteads the department is looking at to see if there is geothermal potential. How this will affect our homestead is unknown. How the department will use the information found and implement it if the potential for geothermal is there are questions to ask.
As your leader, I can only put out the KĀHEA about this venture. We all have a voice in this whether as individuals or as a collective. I hope to put out a survey in the next day or so to get an idea of what is the consensus of our residents. This data can be presented to DHHL at the June 12 meeting.
Kingdom Pathways will be hosting a pre-geothermal meeting THIS Friday, June 5 from 5pm-8pm at Waiʻanae Library. This is a time to learn all we can about geothermal and how it affects us. Please join us.

3) Lawsuit Against DHHL:
This is new and another hot topic for not only DHHL, but for all of us as Kanaka. It affects all those who hold leases, those still waiting for leases and future generations. Please be makaʻala on this subject and moves through the channels. This is HEWA LOA!!

4) Safety with EBikes:
There have been many eyewitness accounts of people riding their ebikes in our homestead with VERY young children. None with helmets on. THIS is a terrible accident waiting to happen. If you or someone you know is doing this, PLEASE make sure everyone on the bike has safety apparatus on.

5) Road Calming Speed Humps:
DHHL did a speed test a month ago getting data to start the process of installation of Road Calming Speed Humps on Kaneʻaki St.. I have also asked DHHL if crosswalks could be painted as there are NO crosswalks anywhere in our homestead. Was told that would be another discussion for another time.

Mahalo,

This is the final fun fact about our Prince for the week. Let us not forget his tireless efforts for his lahui. We are all beneficiaries of his legacy. March 26th is not just another state holiday, another day off of work or school, it is a day to honor our last Prince who made it his life's work to serve our people in the best way he knew how. Celebrate him with us at Kaupuni Park this Thursday, from 10-12 pm. Bring some items to make a lei, we will be doing leis from 10:30-11:00.
