A new Rotary year is underway, and we're excited to embrace this year's theme: E Kūkulu I ka ho'oilina mau loa - Create Lasting Impact.

Under the leadership of our new President, Glenn Arakawa of Plan Benefits Hawaii, we're looking forward to another year of service, collaboration, and strengthening our Waiʻanae Coast community.

We were also proud to recognize Gladys Peraro as a Paul Harris Fellow, one of Rotary's highest honors, celebrating her outstanding commitment to Service Above Self and the lasting difference she continues to make in our community. Congratulations, Gladys!

Mahalo to our guest speaker, Matt Skeele, for sharing his vision of transforming healthcare by shifting from a sick-care model to a prevention and value-based care approach empowering individuals and organizations to invest in wellness before illness. His message was especially fitting as we recognize Rotary's focus on maternal and child health this month.

Through Rotary, members and partners work to conserve nature and biodiversity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support sustainable livelihoods.

Rotary also focuses on environmental equity, addressing issues that disproportionately affect marginalized communities, so everyone can benefit from a healthier planet. 🌎💚

🔥🌺 RYLA 2026 – Leadership, Growth & Lasting Impact 🌺🔥

What an unforgettable weekend at RYLA! 💙

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) experience continues to plant powerful seeds in our young leaders. Building confidence, strengthening character, and helping them see what’s possible for their future.

One participant's grandmother shared this heartfelt reflection about her grandson who was in attendance:

“He loved the weekend so much he is already anticipating next year and who he would like to invite to go with him. He’s also thinking about what comes after graduation and what he needs to do in preparation for it. He really needed this.”

That’s the impact of RYLA. ✨

It’s not just a weekend. It’s perspective. It’s preparation. It’s purpose.

Camp Erdman sets the stage… but our youth brought the magic.

⭐ In celebration of Rotary’s birth month, here’s a piece of Rotary history:

Since its founding in 1905, our motto has remained the same: Service Above Self. But did you know Rotary also has a secondary motto?

'One Profits Most Who Serves Best' was first approved at the 1911 Rotary Convention in Portland, inspired by Rotarian Arthur Frederick Sheldon’s belief that true success comes from serving others.

In 1950, both slogans were officially adopted as Rotary’s mottoes, with Service Above Self named the principal motto in 1989 for best reflecting Rotary’s commitment to unselfish volunteer service. Today, these words continue to guide Rotarians around the world. 🌍✨

🎄✨ Heroes & Helpers — Christmas Day Reflection ✨🎄

While the Heroes & Helpers event didn’t take place on Christmas Day, it felt especially fitting to share it today—because it captures the very heart of this season.

On behalf of the Waianae Coast Rotary Club, we were honored to be part of this beautiful event held at the Target Store in Kapolei. It was made possible through the leadership of the HPD District Eight Community Policing Team and the W**d & Seed Program, with generous support from Target Kapolei, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, and a special shoutout to our Waianae Coast Rotary Club for being part of the village that makes moments like this happen.

The morning began with a huddle led by OFC Pagan, bringing together HPD officers and fellow “Heroes,” followed by a heartfelt blessing by Pastor Allen Cardines, Jr., a warm welcome for the keiki and their parents, and—of course—the excitement of Santa’s arrival.

Twenty keiki from Leeward Oʻahu, each chosen by their teachers for being positive role models and an inspiration to others, were paired with police officers or first responders. After photos with Santa and his elves, the teams set out to shop—each keiki gifted up to $100 thanks to W**d & Seed’s generosity.

What stayed with us most was the generosity of the keiki themselves. Many chose to shop not just for themselves, but for their ʻohana. One carefully checked his list to make sure he bought gifts for his younger siblings. Another used part of his gift to purchase a dozen red roses for his mom—there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. Even the officers felt the magic, reminiscing in the toy aisles (and yes, one may have tried on an alligator mask for fun!).

Today, on Christmas Day, we share this story as a reminder: the spirit of Christmas lives in kindness, service, and the way a community shows up for its keiki.

Mahalo to all who made Heroes & Helpers so meaningful. 🎁❤️🎅🏽

🎄✨ Mahalo nui loa to Aloha LP Gas, Daniel & Sonny! ✨🎄

For years and years, Aloha LP Gas has stood quietly but powerfully behind the Wai'anae Coast Rotary Christmas Parade. Daniel and Sonny truly have hearts of gold - always giving, always showing up, and never asking for anything in return. They are the purest reflection of Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.

Quite simply, this parade would not be possible without them. From storing our Santa float, supplies, and banners… to picking up candy and golf carts… securing drivers for the Santa float… donating generators and cones… and even refurbishing the float without ever being asked - their generosity and commitment go above and beyond, year after year.

We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support, your humility, and your love for this community. The Wai'anae Coast is better because of you. ❤️🎅🏽🌺
