“It might have been gloomy outside, but today was a great day. Thank you, Aunty Collett and Storefront/High Core, for such a treasured moment. I never thought I would be asked to speak and share, and to be called up as the last speaker was unbelievable. To have powerful political leaders, the DOE Deputy Superintendent, Neighborhood Board members, teachers, kahu, and students in attendance made it even more special. Only God could have orchestrated this.
Today reminded me that we all have callings in life, and for me, it is reaching the youth. Senator Samantha DeCorte shared such a compelling story about her time at Storefront as a teenager and how they never gave up on her.
Just being present to hear the encouraging words from our leaders, educators and plans for the new facility, and to hear about the legacy Aunty Collett has built, was amazing. It’s people like her who truly impact and change the lives of students who come from troubled homes like mine.
Thank you, Lord, for today. I am still in awe. Continue to bless our political leaders, the DOE, the Neighborhood Board, Aunty Collett, and teachers like her who see past the brokenness and choose to love every student—here and everywhere.
May they grow to become pillars in their families and in the community.”
