Meet Ava Mejia | USF Softball

We're excited to bring back our Beyond the Scoreboard series, celebrating student-athletes who remind us that there's so much more to an athlete than what happens on the field, court, or scoreboard.

For Ava, being an athlete means more than competing. It's about recognizing the importance of mental health, knowing when to ask for help, and understanding that your worth is never defined by your performance.

Ava shared how grateful she is for her assistant coach, Branson, who has created a safe, judgment-free space where athletes feel heard, supported, and valued beyond the game.

Her message to other student-athletes is simple but powerful: Asking for help isn't a weakness. It's one of the strongest things you can do.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been nearly a month since our Play for Paige 33 Golf Tournament!

A huge thank you to every golfer, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who helped make this year’s event possible.

We’re incredibly grateful for the community that continues to show up for Paige and support our mission. Because of you, we’re able to keep growing, reaching more people, and making a difference through mental health awareness and support. 💜

💙 This World Mental Health Day, let’s remind one another that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone. 🫂❤️‍🩹

Let’s send love to those who smile while silently struggling, those who have survived battles they never thought they would overcome, those grieving someone they wish were still here, and those slowly finding their way back to themselves. 🥹🤍

Let’s remember those who feel alone even when surrounded by people, those who are hurting but cannot find the words to explain their pain, and those who need help but are afraid to ask for it. 🫶

Behind every smile, there may be a story we know nothing about. A little kindness, a moment of understanding, or simply being there for someone can make more of a difference than we realize. 🌷✨

Today and every day, let’s choose compassion over judgment, understanding over assumptions, and love over silence.

What an incredible example of what happens when a community comes together for a cause that matters!

A HUGE thank you to Premier Dental for partnering with us to plan and organize an amazing co****le tournament in support of the Play for Paige 33 Foundation!

We also want to give a special thank you to Heavy Brewing for collaborating with us and being such incredible hosts! Your hospitality and support helped make the event a great experience for everyone involved.

Together, we raised $11,417 to support our mission of promoting mental health awareness, spreading hope, and making a difference in the lives of others.
