I can’t believe this day is finally here, y’all! I been working on this thing for YEARS. My voice shines through in this book — real, raw, unfiltered memories of my life and opinions on the state of animal ag — in Texas and all over the world. It’s educational but also deeply personal. Writing it has been a purging of my demons and struggles as well as a confrontation of the systems of power that wanted me to shut up.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who pre-ordered the book and gave it the momentum it needed to make an impact. Your copies are getting shipped out. And to anyone who orders the book from today on, it will be shipped to you immediately.

Let’s keep showing the world what a former Texas cowgirl turned vegan animal liberation activist can do!

Over a decade ago, I was struggling physically and emotionally. I was eating all the usual suspects –cows, pigs, chickens– and unknowingly I was eating all of the pain, fear, and distress they experienced at their time of death. Animals release a cascade of stress hormones when they are being murdered, just as we would. And those stress hormones stay in their flesh for us to ingest. Plus, their flesh is often contaminated with f***l matter and pathogens in addition to antibiotics, microplastics, and saturated fat. There is absolutely nothing good for you — physically or spiritually — in eating an animal’s body.

Anyway, I was struggling until I woke up to what we were really doing on my husband’s cattle ranch, and then things got WORSE. WeMe and him started fighting every day, I was crying and raging by turns and spending most of my days out in the pastures with the herd. I watched them and went deeper and deeper into the awakening of my vegan consciousness — and our true role as stewards, not tormentors.

After months of battling, I raised the money to BUY my husband’s cows from him and the ranch became a sanctuary. EVERYTHING changed. My health improved, my husband went vegan and HIS health improved. The animals became calmer. We rescued more animals.

11 years later, every day is filled with LOVE and PURPOSE. You just can’t explain to a non-vegan how good it feels to be vegan; they have to experience it for themselves.

We keep saving animals and inspiring others to live a vegan lifestyle, from right here in cattle country, Texas!

Shut 'em down!! And go vegan. šŸ’ŖšŸ’š

JBS USA announced June 12, 2026, that it is closing its beef-processing plant in Souderton, Pennsylvania, as well as a smaller facility in Memphis, Tennessee.

CAN I GET AN AMEN!

The primary driver is the ongoing, severe shortage of cattle in the U.S., which has pushed the national herd to its lowest levels in decades. Meatpacking companies are currently facing financial pressure, with analysts estimating that companies are losing around $300 for every head of cattle processed.

This is more writing on the wall for a system that has treated animals and humans like cogs in a broken machine for far too long. Instead of clinging to a dying industry that profits from death, it is time for farmers to see the clear path forward.

We have a golden opportunity to support farmers in transitioning their land to plant-based agriculture, creating a future that is rooted in compassion, healing, and true sustainability rather than exploitation. We need government subsidies for farm transition! We need a plant-based future!

Nearly 9 million animals an hour are killed for the food system. When I say the numbers out loud, I am not trying to shock people just for the sake of it. I am trying to break through the silence that has made this whole damned system seem acceptable.
Every second of every day, animals are killed for a meal. It breaks my heart. The grief is real to me. The urgency is real to me too.
And I will keep speaking for them for as long as I have breath in me.

It makes no sense - you feed them something you have to keep a secret? You hide the fact that all the animals they love in tv shows and movies are being hacked up into pieces and served to them on a plate? What kind of madness is this? We can survive and THRIVE on a healthy whole food, plant-based diet - yet we choose to feed our children the remains of a dead body? And then y’all have the nerve to criticize vegan parents when y’all are feeding your kids hot dogs and McDeath’s nuggets? That is some grade A hypocrisy and denial right there - not to mention willful ignorance!

Quit feeding your kids the putrefying remains of a dead animal - or if you’re gonna keep up that primitive practice - show them the footage of how it gets there - see how they feel about that.

Evil truly is hidden in the mundane. Feeding dead animals to children is so normalized that nobody is forced to see what it really is - the rage, panic and grief that courses through these animals as they are mercilessly slaughtered one after the other, a never-ending assembly line of gore and pain.

Vegan parents will tell you - and the science provides evidence - that their kids are perfectly happy and healthy. And there’s no lying about where their food comes from. You can take them to the orchard or the crop fields without any lifelong trauma. The answer is clear.

I couldn’t have kids - so these animals became my babies. And I will defend them tooth and nail to my last breath. You think it’s easy? It’s NOT. I live in Texas, I am a heretic and often treated as such. But I will not stop educating and shaking and waking people from their slumber.

We’ve got to start pushing hard to shift the narrative in our culture that it’s okay to use and abuse those weaker than us. We have got to step up and transform our role to that of steward and caretaker.

Y’all, come hang out with me! I want to see your face and give you a hug while we figure out how to end the animal industrial torture complex. I’m serious - I have a book tour across America in the works and I want to see these meetups become nodes of resistance and revolution. We need to see one another face-to-face and put our incredible minds to work on how we can stop the killing juggernaut that has infiltrated our government, population and earth.

I wrote this book to educate folks who wouldn’t normally see this kind of literature. I want to reach the freshman at Texas A&M University. I want to reach the Christian cattle rancher’s wives in the Midwest. I want to start something big that connects us in a mission of greater empathy and compassion.

So come on out, y’all! Our very first meeting will be at BookPeople in Austin, Texas at 7pm on June 26th. Register for it at https://buff.ly/AaTsrcA before we run out of space! šŸ”—

I will be personally signing copies and getting to know as many of you as I possibly can.

I appreciate your support all along this journey so, so much. See you there! Peace and love, Renee

Meet my good friend, and member of the Rowdy Club, Willow ā¤ļø

She supported animal rights for decades but only recently went vegan. Now she helps Rowdy Girl grow food for our animals!

I’m always grateful to hear why folks choose to be part of this work, and hearing from Willow sure fills my heart with love.

It means a whole lot to me when people like Willow choose to go vegan and stand with this animal rights work. That kind of support helps me keep this sanctuary strong and keep showing up for the animals who depend on me.

Anecdotes aren’t science. But we all know most people take anecdotes more to heart than the solid science out there.

So here’s an anecdote about Mike Fremont, the 104-year-old vegan who has broken records in marathons, half-marathons, sprinting and canoe racing. AND he did all of this AFTER receiving a colon cancer diagnosis at age 69. His doctors at the Cleveland Clinic told him that the tumor had metastasized and that he would only have three months to live if he didn’t undergo immediate surgery.

Mike decided to take a different approach. Inspired by the book The Cancer Prevention Diet by Michio Kushi, he transitioned to a strict plant-based, macrobiotic diet.

At 104-years-young, Mike Fremont has well proven the power of a plant-based diet.

The health benefits are a part of the whole karmic package of veganism - but they are not MY WHY. It’s always first and foremost the ANIMALS for me- their freedom, their liberation from the bonds of torture and exploitation.

Please join me y’all in making the world a better place for animals. As a cattle rancher turned vegan animal activist and sanctuary founder, I know firsthand just how brutal animal ag is and just how desperately we need to switch to a vegan food system.

At 68, I stay as healthy and strong as I possibly can in order to keep working towards liberation for all exploited animals on our earth.

Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is my legacy - will you help ensure it continues to thrive now and into the future with a legacy pledge? Each legacy pledge - no matter the amount - unlocks an instant $250 for the sanctuary thanks to an anonymous donor.

Regan Russel was a hero for animals. She stood up to the powerful and spoke the truth. And, like the animals she was fighting for, she became a victim of the killing machine.

On June 19, 2020, at the age of 65, Russell was participating in a peaceful protest outside Fearman's Pork Inc., a slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ontario. The demonstration was organized to protest Ontario’s "ag-gag" legislation (Bill 156), which had passed two days earlier and was designed to restrict public access to animal farms and transport vehicles. During the protest, activists were providing water to pigs inside a transport truck on a hot day. While Russell was standing at the facility's entrance, the driver turned into the driveway, striking and killing her instantly.

The driver of the truck was convicted of ā€œcareless drivingā€ resulting in a fine and 12 months probation.

BU****IT!

How ironic that while protesting ag-gag laws, Regan’s life was taken - the ultimate taking away of someone’s voice.

Folks who work in the slaughter industry make their living off of violence. They are surrounded by it every day. At a certain point, it becomes easier to live by violence than to admit your own wrongdoing.

But activists are still out here following Regan’s example. They are still doing the right thing - in the face of personal harm to themselves. Because they’ve seen what’s going on behind the curtain and they aren’t willing to live in denial. They have chosen the path of truth, light and good.

Me and my husband were once cattle ranchers in Texas. Everything incentivized us to stay in that business - but my heart wouldn’t let me. I saw so clearly that it was wrong and I changed. I could not live with that hypocrisy of feeling their pain - and also being the cause of it.

We went vegan, converted the ranch to a sanctuary for farmed animals and have been working towards animal liberation ever since.

Regan, rest in peace, lovely woman. Thank you for following your heart’s truth and blazing a shining path forward for the rest of us. We’re still working hard down here.

06/18/2026

I’m serious y’all - animal agriculture is one of the foundational evils of our society. It allows so much hatred to breed unchecked in our culture. We have all accepted as normal the most vicious torture of the most innocent beings - how does that NOT affect our collective psyche?

Think of all the horrible stuff we do to other humans - think of how similar it is to what we do to farmed animals. People are stuck in the mindset of oppressor versus oppressed - you’re either one or the other. Perpetrator or victim. They don’t see that your pain is my pain - that we are all one. The man in the photo abusing the poor baby pig - doesn’t realize that he is a victim of his own rage and powerlessness. He is a victim of a power structure built upon exploitation and misery of many in order to serve the pleasure of the few.

I say there is a special place in hell for animal abusers - but here’s the thing: they have already created their own hell right here on earth. The moment they succumb to rage and violence, they are in a hell of their own making. They don’t even realize it at first - that is the seductive power of rage - at first the feeling of power fools you. But eventually you become a slave to it.

We must always act from a place of true strength and freedom - as we work tirelessly for animal rights, as we feel their pain, as we lament the hypocrisy and helplessness born of the animal ag killing machine - we must rise above. That kind of emotional precision is David taking aim at Goliath.

In every action I take, I am attempting to rise above my own limitations - the limitations of my past and my programming. How else could I have gone vegan on a cattle ranch and lived to tell the tale?

Rowdy Girl Sanctuary was born from this ability to rise up and out of a lifetime of conditioning.

It was not easy, no doubt about that. But it was worth every struggle.

Please ensure the strength of our sanctuary now and into the future by joining us as a MEMBER at https://buff.ly/53p1ddE šŸ”—

This single action makes a HUGE difference for us and our animals. šŸ™
