October 29th from 9am to 12pm join us on an exclusive tour around the MTA's 207th Street Subway Overhaul Shop & Yard. Overhaul on the world's most famous subways is conducted at this facility, and usually closed to the public, is being opened up to the Twin Forks Chapter of the NRHS to help celebrate our 30th Anniversary!

𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐈𝐋𝐌 𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐋 𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒!
Do you have any 8mm, 16mm, or 35mm film reels? Send them to us! We’re spreading the word to get old film reels of the Long Island Rail Road re-scanned and digitized in 4k Quality! We know many people have old footage of the LIRR taken on celluloid film, and instead of those reels being thrown away or forgotten, the Twin Forks Chapter of the NRHS is looking to save them, store them, and digitize for everybody to access them. Email us for more information and if you would like to donate your film reels to us!

Today we honor the 2,977 people who died on September the 11th, 2001. With an event so cataclysmic to strike one of the largest cities on Earth, there are tens of thousands of different stories to be told.

Some of those unfortunate victims who died that day commuted to work on the Long Island Rail Road. The days and weeks following those events, their cars were left at the train station parking lots. Ronkonkama and Jamaica stations having the most cars left behind. To the LIRR Commuters who tragically lost their lives that day, we remember you.

The dust and rubble created an unforgettable cloud that lingered over New York City’s skyline for days. The impacts of that still haunt thousands to this day. Since 9/11, the toxic exposure has killed over 5,000 people, as that number still climbs. To the MTA workers who bravely rescued countless people and brought them to safety, and have since died of their heroic efforts, we remember you.

Please take the time today to pay your respects in any way that you can. May God Bless you all, and May God Bless America.

𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌𝐓𝐎𝐖𝐍!
This past weekend, dedicated members of the Twin Forks NRHS went out to Scranton, PA to help showcase our Chapter at the Steamtown Railfest 2026. We met with many great volunteers of other organizations such as TOYX, Colebrookdale, and C&CV. Thank you again to Steamtown NHS for the invite and we can’t wait to return again next year!

𝐒𝐄𝐄 𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌𝐓𝐎𝐖𝐍!
Visiting Steamtown's 2026 Railfest? So are we! The Twin Forks NRHS will have a tent with artifacts and merchandise on display. We will only be there on September 5th and 6th, but the festival is open on Friday! Steamtown will be hosting train rides, tank rides, and other amazing activities! If you're in the area, stop by!

🚨RIVERHEAD RAILROAD FESTIVAL 2026!🚨

🗓️ MARK YOUR CALENDARS for our annual Riverhead Railroad Festival is ALMOST HERE!!! Thanks to the efforts of the Railroad Museum of Long Island and Suffolk County, we are excited to celebrate the 30TH ANNIVERSARY of the opening of our museum in 1996!

🚂 This year’s Railroad Festival will take place:
Saturday-Sunday August 29-30th (10am-4pm)
At the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead, New York.

𝐓𝐖𝐈𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐒 𝐆𝐎𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐇 𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐃

On August 15th the Twin Forks Chapter of the NRHS toured the New York and Atlantic Railway's Fresh Pond Yard. Eager members and new faces tagged along for a very informational tour of the headquarters of Long Island Freight Railroad.

Fresh Pond is NY&A's Headquarters located in Queens. Formerly a LIRR Yard, it now houses an Engine Shop, Offices, and Interchange with CSX. To Celebrate 30 years of Twin Forks, the Chapter was granted access to the facility by NYAR.

We were also extremely privileged to see NY&A #270, now a America250 Heritage Unit. Thank you James “Sparky” Nunes, our host for the opportunity to take photos with the locomotive.

𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐀𝐂𝐇 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄!

Built in 1935, it is 1 of 5 remaining American Flyer coaches in existence. Twin Forks has determined that the coach no longer fits within the scope of its active restoration priorities and available resources. This car is available to be donated to qualified preservation groups capable of ensuring its continued care and interpretation. Should the car not be picked up by another preservation group, plans for alternatives will have to be made. Please spread the word about this sale, we believe this coach is capable of being restored, with the proper resources, funding, and facilities that our Chapter does not have.
