What an incredible luncheon celebrating the Leadership Anson Class of 2026! With more than 40 participants and guests in attendance, the event was a wonderful reflection of a year spent learning, growing, and discovering all that makes Anson County special.

Several class members shared their experiences and personal journeys through the program, while Monica Wall presented a fantastic PowerPoint highlighting our season together. Each participant was asked to share something "good" they found in our community throughout the year, and the responses were as diverse and inspiring as the people who shared them.

Sheriff Howell shared words of hope and congratulations to our graduates and we are always appreciative of his support of this wonderful program.

We ended the day with Steve Lear playing a portion of Queen's “We Are the Champions”. Hands swayed, voices joined in song, and the room was filled with pride and celebration.

A special thank you to Loba-Wakol for hosting us and allowing us to enjoy your impressive facility. We also appreciate Ernie Walters for providing the blessing and Creative Food Concepts for serving a delicious meal. The co-hort brought diapers and wipes to share with Partnership for Children to say thank you for their assistance in Leadership Anson this year. Thank you to Andrew James for the individual photos for our graduates. Huge thank you to Steve Lear for his time and dedication to this program.

Some memorable comments from our graduates included:

💙 "I'm reminded why I live in Anson County." — Holly Stegall

💙 "This program gave me hope." — Katie Scarborough

💙 "I had no idea of the amazing people that live in Anson County." — Emily Hasty

💙 "It's been a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful opportunity, and I am probably Anson County's biggest cheerleader." — Rebecca Berry

💙 "It's so nice to see so much positivity." — Hailey Cummings

💙 "We made full use of our time every day." — Katie Scarborough

💙 "Creating my first set of friendships in the area." — Susan Noyes

Tuesday, May 19th - Leadership Anson Healthcare Day provided an incredible opportunity to learn more about the healthcare services, programs, and resources that impact the lives of residents across our region.
Our day began at the Anson County Health Department, where participants learned about the many important services the department provides to Anson County residents each day. From health education, immunizations, maternal and child health programs, and nutrition services to community outreach and preventive care, the Health Department plays a vital role in protecting and improving the health of our community.
We then traveled to Richmond County Hospice, where the team shared the compassionate care and support, they provide to patients and families facing serious illness and end-of-life care. Their organization offers hospice care, grief support, family resources, and emotional support services that bring comfort and dignity to families during difficult times. Leadership Anson participants also enjoyed lunch while learning about the impact hospice care has throughout the region.
The afternoon continued at Atrium Health Anson, where participants heard presentations about the many healthcare services and programs available locally. The team shared information on emergency care, outpatient services, patient support programs, and community health initiatives that help meet the growing needs of Anson County residents. Brian Freeman provided insight into the hospital’s mission and commitment to quality healthcare, followed by a facility tour that gave participants a behind-the-scenes look at hospital operations.
Safer Communities Ministry also spoke to the class about substance abuse in Anson County and the resources and services they provide to help individuals and families affected by addiction. Participants learned about the Narcan machines now located throughout the county and how this life-saving product has already helped save many lives within our communities.
To end the day, Atrium Health Anson graciously treated the class to Peaches and Cream dessert before concluding another outstanding Leadership Anson experience.
We appreciate P*e Dee Electric, SPCC and Anson County Partnership for Children for providing transportation for the group.
Thanks to all of our hosts, speakers, and partners for investing in Leadership Anson and for the work you do every day to care for our communities!

The community celebrated the grand opening of B.V. Hedrick Gravel & Sand’s Granite Quarry last week, and what an incredible sight to see! Learning about all the components and operations of the quarry was both fascinating and informative.

From the excellent presentation and transportation arrangements to tour the quarry, to the wonderful food and hospitality, every detail made for a perfect day.

The Anson County Chamber of Commerce appreciates B.V. Hedrick’s commitment to our community and congratulates them on over 100 years of service and success. Here’s to continued growth and partnership for many years to come!
